Highly looking forward to your respond : *****convert mesh to NURBS*****

Dear Sir/Madam
Hello, I reach you in order to kindly ask you, is there any way to convert mesh to NURBS surface when I have a curve form? Indeed, I model a building in the Sketchup(Attachment Picture - Sketchup has Mesh interface) and export 3ds to Rhino 6 in order to have a NURBS surface.
Moreover, I have tested the SharkCAD Pro-AP or ViaCAD 10 software in order to do it but unfortunately, they automatically transform all mesh surface (Curve form) to NURBS surface (Even straight lines) and I miss my main idea.
Ultimately, is there any third party Rhino plugins or solution that make an attempt to smooth the surface (Nurbs)?
It would be your kindness if you assist me to convert Mesh to Nurbs correctly. Thanks in advance.

How closely does the NURBS surface need to match the mesh?

Why do you need a NURBS surface?

Have you considered modeling the shape in Rhino?

Thank you for your prompt reply and for considering my message.

  1. I do not want to be exact, but I do not want to lose the form because I have tested the SharkCAD Pro-AP or ViaCAD 10 software in order to convert it but unfortunately they automatically transform all mesh surface (Curve form) to NURBS surface (Even straight lines) and I miss my main idea and also form.

  2. Actually, I am working in an architecture firm in Berlin which is using Revit as main software in order to present their work and I model my concept in the Sketchup and as you know SKP interface is base on MESH and Revit is based on NURBS. I need it because it is too important to have a surface when you imported to Revit.

  3. Unfourtuanly, I am not so professional in Rhino.

Hi Hamidreza - it is not a matter of converting to NURBS exactly - if you want a smooth surface, in Rhino, it is a matter of modeling the object in Rhino… you can use the mesh as a target and make a simple surface that you could edit to get very close to the mesh. It would take a bit of patience. The form looks like it could be an interpolation of a series of curves in either the ‘long’ direction or the short one - was it made from curves? If it was, then getting those curves into Rhino would be a big step forward, even if they come in as polylines and not clean curves. Can you share what you have so far?

you can convert meshes to nurbs. But its like converting a pixel image to a vector graphic. You normally don‘t this. Nurbs is more then a mesh representation and as such an automatic conversion will always be problematic. Build it again like Pascal proposed or use professional, commerical software like Geomagic but live with the limitations. My advice, get better in freeform surface modelling and build such shapes with surfaces from beginning on.:slightly_smiling_face:
