Hello. First time poster, long time Rhino user, so apologies if I’m not posting this correctly:
Short description FBX files that take ~20 mins to import into Rhino 7 are causing Rhino 8 to freeze for 24+ hrs.
Longer Description Our group has been using Rhino in the AEC industry for years. We work with teams using a wide array of engineering software and import their models into Rhino to clean up/augment/divide and send to our rendering software. One workflow is exporting model data from Navisworks to an FBX filetype and then importing it into Rhino. This historically has worked without issue for FBX files upwards of 1000MB (1 GB). Lately, while using Rhino 8, we have been unable to successfully import FBX files >100MB. My Rhino 8 program has been locked up for 24+ hrs trying to import a 156 MB FBX file that Rhino 7 successfully imported in ~20 mins. This has happened on several projects in the last month. I have tried changing the FBX version and format settings in Navisworks export options with no success. I tried to import the same files into Rhino 7 and it worked without an issue.
So a couple things I’m wondering:
Are there known issues with the “Import_FBX” plug in in Rhino 8?
Are there some settings i need to tweak in Rhino 8 to get this to perform better?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am attaching screenshots of the export/import settings from NavisWorks and Rhino, as well as a screenshot of the imported FBX file in Rhino 7. I can provide models files as well, but would need to do so confidentially.
I am facing the same problem with rhino 8.
Fbx files that import in rhino 7 , taking around 20 minutes, fail in rhino 8, or at least rhino 8 is hanging for more than 4 hours.
I can’t share the fbx since it’s under Nda.
Without a file, there isn’t much we can do.
I’ve added this to an issue about opening a large 3dm file, but that isn’t necessarily related…
