Extruding closed curves with gumball generates solids

I am coming from rhino5 do rhino8 for mac. So I may be missing something.
Everytime i extrude a closed curve using gumball and command, i get a solid instead of a hollow extrusion. Is that the new behaviour? It used to create solids when i extruded surfaces.
Maybe there is a config somewhere i am missing?

Hello- in V8, ctrl-extrude with the gumball leaves the result open

Oh, Thank you so much. i wasn’t even aware of the circle and minus handles. i feel silly. Was that already there in rhino5? I love the functionality. congrats to the team!
