Extrude with Gumball to a capped solid?

I recently discovered that I can extrude using the dot on the Gumball arrows. However, the resulting extrusion is not a capped solid. Can that option be set?

If you extrude a curve you get a surface. If you extrude a surface you get a solid.

And would be possible extrude closed curve as capped solid? E.t. with ctrl+shift or something similar? Would be greate and powerfull workflow…
