I’m having trouble removing/changing the black lines/light reflections on this object to white ones.
I’ve tried changing some of the environment and material settings but I can’t seem to get it to ‘shine’ line it would in white light/sun light as I’m still a novice at this stuff.
Those dark spots are due to internal reflections. They bounce so much inside that at some point the limit is reached.
You can decrease that from happening by increasing the bounce count. You’ll have to do that until you don’t get the black spots anymore.
In the Rendering panel go to Rhino Render Advanced Settings, and bump the different bounces to some higher number. Here with the relevant bounce limits set to 256:
it looks like glossy is making the most impact, changing the others does not make much of a visual difference as far as i can tell.
also how does the maximum bounces work? does it sum up in relation to the settings underneath the max bounce? if i set all of them to 300 each (not sure what the max is) it will still only create 500?
I can’t seem to get the black lines to go with your suggested settings, and when I raise it to 500 and then to1000, instead of 300 - it remains the same.
Do you know of anything else I could try?
Also, your image seems to have a think line/shadow over the pendent - what is this?
And, the material on your image seems better/clearer/more reflective. Do I need to change other settings to achieve what you have?
I think what you’ve got is just about what I’m looking for.
Nathan - I have may have spoken too soon. I want to add all 4 views to the portfolio page.
The top view doesn’t seem to show the same reflections/environment as the other views - is this usual? I’ve never even thought of using the top images for a final presentation piece before.
So, I wondered if there is a way to make the top view have the same light/reflections/ as the other views.
Not my expertise, but perhaps it would look better if you didn’t have it on the “floor”. I think many jewellery photos and renders have necklaces either mounted or “hanging” just off the floor. You should hopefully get the light through the whole of the material then. At the moment, it seems a little wasted, or muted, to use a better term.
@user1381 as @David53 suggests you could rotate the pendant instead so that in the perspective view you can almost view it from the front of the lips.
The Top/Bottom, Front/Back and Right/Left views are parallel projections, they won’t look the same as the perspective view. Of course additionally you are looking from different angles regardless of the projection, so things will look differently.
