Reflections in Rhino 7

Trying to get reflections in Rhino 7. I have this model and, no matter how I rotate it, nothing reflects the HDRI background. I’ve checked the box for use custom environment for reflections in Render Properties and have no lights turned on. the HDRI is providing all the light.

What is visible in the image is pretty bland and wouldn’t cause much in the way of reflections on the white surfaces. However, the sky “behind” the view (over the viewer’s shoulder) is a little more dramatic and, as shown, causes no reflection in the glass, which is the “light blue glass” material from the library. I’ve only changed the color in order to avoid having to model the interior.

I always try to sort this with a simple sphere… hide your boat model and drop a sphere into the scene. apply a metal to it, does it reflect?

once you get that working you can then progress to your model.

reflections take a few things into consideration.

environment, lighting, transparency, angle of view, and reflection settings in the material.

if you can post your file, I’d be happy to take a look-

Yeah, it’s way too big to post. I think it’s close to 80 Mb.

I’ll return to square 1 and start again. I have one or two models that have proper reflections, but this one just doesn’t want to play nicely. I’ve compared settings on the glass material with other models, and can’t find a diifference.

Like I said, I’ll return to square and go at it again.

Just zip it and any potential support files and upload to our upload tool. Don’t forget to copy a link to this discussion to the comment section. That way tech support will know where the file relates to.
