Dimension Discrepancy

Strange. I’ve got an object in the attached file that measures out to a thickness of 7/8" but when I use the dimension tool to dimension it, I get 3/4". I check the length units for the dimension style I’m using and it’s 1/8" – so what could be causing the difference? I wonder if someone could look at the file and at the video I created for it that shows the cross-checking I’ve done to see what might be causing the discrepancy. Tolerances seem to be fine… any help would be appreciated

This looks like a round up/round down error. If I put the layout units into decimal inches, the actual measurement (Distance command) is 0.8125" (13/16"). That puts it exactly in the middle of 7/8" (0.875) and 3/4" (0.750) There is perhaps enough floating point fuzz to force a round down on one hand and a round up on the other hand. In theory, if your tolerance is 1/8", both 3/4" and 7/8" are ‘correct’…

If you set both your layout space display accuracy to 1/16" and your dimension style to the same, you will see that the result from Distance matches the dimension.

Thank you, Mitch. That’s a good point. Makes me nervous, though… :disappointed_relieved:

Hi Cosmas,
We logged this YT for the developers look at the issue: RH-62385 Layout Dimension Rounds Differently Than Model Dimension

We will let you know when we hear back.
Thanks again,
