I experimented with Clipping Plane Excluded layers today. My goal was to include reference frame lines and designations (from an attached model) on the x,y plane at the origin elevation, and a center line running along the Z axis from the origin, while setting clipping planes normal to the Z and X axes. I hoped to use Make2D to generate a few 2D views that would include these references. However, it seems that clipping plane excluded layers do not appear in the 2D generated views. I ensured they were in the selected content and highlighted as selected objects. Am I trying to use these features outside their intended scope? With the clipping planes turned off, everything generated as expected.
Hi @RHammer,
Please try the ClippingDrawing command for making multiple, historical 2D views of your session though the model. (Make2D can work if the clipping plane is the last active on the view, but the Make2D is not historical.)
Clipping Drawing should respect your excluded objects.
We can answer the question better, if you can share a model.
Please send it along.
Also, here is a helpful video on Dynamic sections
I’m sorry I was not clearer. I was intending to create Front, Left, and Top views (not section views) of the model and lines in the image shown. Regrettably we tend to still use Make2D and the section command over the clipping drawings features as they maintain source layers. Clipping Section Drawings + Maintain Source Layers
In a quick test here, that only seems to apply to the perspective view output from Make2D.
Are you seeing something else on your end? If that’s the case, please post or upload the files that are necessary to reproduce this issue.
I’ve reported the issue with the perspective view as RH-88547 Make2D: No Output from Attached Files in Perspective

Thank you for testing this on your end. I didn’t feel like what I was seeing was the expected behavior, though I hesitated to label it a bug. The issue specifically occurred in the left view, and when it didn’t perform as anticipated, I didn’t explore other views. I’m currently swamped, so I’ll attempt to reproduce the issue, test all standard views, and share the necessary .3dm and .rws files as soon as I have a moment.
