Cannot Install Rhino 5.12 on Windows 10 Pro x64

I downloaded Rhino for Windows, rh50_en-us_5.12.50810.13095.exe, and whenever I run it on a Windows 10 Pro x64 platform, the install fails.

Here’s the log file:

The support site says a few things that make no sense. First, it suggests that I run the Dot Net 4.0 Framework directly from the DVD. There is no DVD. This was a downloaded install. Then it provides a link to Microsoft’s site to download and install the Dot Net 4.0 Framework. When I do this, the downloaded Dot Net 4.0 Framework install program stops and reports that there is no need to install the framework; that Windows 10 already contains the Dot Net 4.0 Framework.

So I have been unable to install Rhino 5 on Windows 10.

Any suggestions?

Hi Michael - I assume you installed all available Windows updates, right?.

-Pascal

This is Windows 10. There is no user accessible “Update Windows” control panel applet. Windows 10 automatically downloads and installs updates. If an update requires a reboot, Windows 10 is configured to ask me to schedule the reboot, which I I do after saving un-saved files. As far as I am aware, my installation of Windows 10 is current.

If you type “update windows” in the search bar, there is a check for windows screen at the top of the list. You can select check for updates and then you can choose to restart / install the updates if there are any available.

@ra_mull, I did that and here are the results:

Did you just take that screenshot? In the image it says windows last checked for updates on 12/26/2015, today is 12/31/2015. There may or may not be new updates since then. I’m not sure.

Yes. I took that screenshot a couple of hours ago (just before my last post). I also have this:

This is untouched by me since installing Windows 10. Are there any not-checked check boxes that should be checked?

Unfortunately I’m not a developer and have very little experience in the area of install not working.
All I was chiming in on was the fact that windows does indeed have a manual check for update button. And according to your windows update image your system has not checked for updates in 5 days. I did the check for update button on my computer just now and it found update(s) that need to be installed. I do a manual check for update usually twice a week and tend to find some.

Hopefully someone else can assist you in your install issue.

I rebooted the machine and it tried again and this time the install ran. I don’t know what changed, but it worked. Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.
