Bug: Rhino 8 failed to save file / temporary file could not be renamed

Hi @pascal I don’t see this as fully solved.

Turning off the local temp files creates a quite noticable lag when saving at network drives. The fix above might work as a quick fix but it’s not sustainable.

Can you please look into the actual issue, making sure we can save our temp files before uploading and maintain decent save speeds?

Rhino 6 - Slow save to network location

Sorry for reviving this topic, but I was having the same issue as OP, but with Rhino 7. I emailed Rhino Customer Support, and they indicated that there is a setting that allows Rhino to save to a local temp file then push to the network location. This is working quite well for me. Options > Advanced: Rhino.Options.FileSettings.WriteLocalTempFileWhenSaving = True

Thanks, Chris. I see that, in your first post, you wrote: turn on Rhino.Options.FileSettings.WriteLocalTempFileWhenSaving That setting was changed to default to True in 7.21. What happens when you turn that to False? -wim

Saving Error: renaming tempory

Hey Steve, kind of network location. I is on my local hard disk but I am using Next Cloud to sync my files. Saving didnt work on folders which are not synched neither btw. I’ll try your solution with the next update. Dont want to do run the update right now to 7.21 right now as it is kind of working right now

edit: As a fallback, perhaps even if the setting is True, then save it directly on location if it fails with the temp file. Not-saving is not an option as I just regrettibly lost a days work because I didnt notice.
