BUG: Print Vector PDF Make strange dots at a certain scale

Hi,

I’m having a problem with PDF printing in vector output. Strange dots appear if I print the drawing at a scale of 1:10 or 1:25, from Wireframe and Technical Display modes. The dots don’t seem to appear at a scale of 1:5.

Wireframe 1:5

Wireframe 1:25

Technical 1:5

Technical 1:25

The drawings are made up of hatches and solid curves, some of which come from make2D.

Hi Pipouille -

Thanks → RH-84872 Print: Curves Print As Hatch Dots

Until this is fixed, you could use the SelShortCrv command to select and hide short curves. The length you need will depend on the scale of the detail.

Hi Wim,

As always, thanks for the summary and the clear follow-up.
Hope this problem isn’t too complex.

It can help, but not in all cases. As always with selection tools, blocks are not considered.

Best,
Pipouille

+1 the only workarround for now is to make2d

thank you for the quick fix - at least at my end it works again!!

I printed with pen (white background) interestingely when I reimport the drawing back into rhino (which works miles better than make2d) and I zoom in there are those weird circles, that I cant find when I zoom into the pdf…

Hi sebowim -

I take it that you import PDF file with the “Import fill as” option set to Boundary curves?

-wim

thats correct - thank you very much! @wim

BUT: the circles just transform to dots when I use hatches

Hi sebowim -

You are simply confirming the YT report…
I guess I don’t understand your feedback in this thread.
-wim

Sorry @wim I did not want to spread confusion - the printing issue was „fixed“ in the latest service release candidate yesterday - at least so much that you cant see the dots anymore when printing, I just wanted to add that when you import those pdf back into rhino de dots reappear (altough very very small)

sebowim

Hi,

Thank you for the quick fix! But indeed it’s true that the problem doesn’t seem to have been completely solved.

If I take the same model as the one posted previously. I still have a few spots with dots appearing.

This creates gaps in some cases. And reimportation is therefore strange.
Here, it’s as if a line had been converted into a dot, leaving a space.

Hi sebowim and Pipouille -

I see that, when importing the PDF back into Rhino, the hatches are still visible.

When looking at the PDF file, however, I’m not noticing any issues with the file that was provided.

→ I’m not seeing anything wrong here, and note that this is zoomed in 3200%!

Is this somehow still impacting your workflow?

RH-84872 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 14

unfortunately the issue still persists, when importing the pdf back to rhino it is there:

sebowim

Please answer this one!!

-wim

hi @wim thank you for your fast response! until now it did not impact my workflow because I did not need to export DWG / DXF - and had no real issues for exporting graphics.

But now I needed to use the “hack” from PDF to DWG/DXF and when using this approach it’s a real pain to delete all these hatches and they also delete the linework that’s underneath so only deleting is half of the work.. (sometimes those dots are super-tiny, sometimes not)

best regards,
sebowim

RH-88367 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 23
