Block Editing while in Raytraced makes rhino crash

Not sure if this is a known issue.

Steps:

  1. Make a cube
  2. Make it into a block
2b. Copy that block over (Not sure if this is necessary)
  3. Turn on raytraced
  4. Run BlockEdit and move a face of the cube
  5. Crash

@nathanletwory probably?

Hello - thanks for the report - I do not get a crash here so far, but raytrace certainly does not keep up with the edits to my box - that much at least I can add to the bug tracker.
RH-64729 Cylces: Keep up with blockEdit

Please send in a crash report if you can, just in case we cannot repeat the crash here.

-Pascal

I also am not able to reproduce the crash. But the problem is BlockEdit: RH-47128 BlockEdit messes with object attributes (instance).

Thanks.

-Pascal

At least two of our computers crash when doing this, but they are setup almost identically. There should be a couple of crash reports.

Can you please share a file with me with which the crash happens on your machines? You can use rhino3d.com/upload?to=nathan@mcneel.com to upload confidentially. I’ll be notified automatically when the upload has completed.

@rheinason also, could you please share in a private message with me what e-mail address(es) you have used to submit the crash reports? The one I can see here on discourse does not find any crash reports.

There not really any file, it’s basically just doing the steps above. I just caused a crash and sent the report, did you receive it?

I have repeated the steps many times, and was not able to cause a crash. Can you please copy&paste the result of the Rhino command _SystemInfo here?

I tried disabling Tibidabo and VisualARQ, but I still got the crash, but they might still be related, a coworkers computer didn’t crash and he doesn’t have VisualARQ.

Calling @fsalla

You have also quite many other plug-ins (twinmotion, enscape, speckle, etc). It would be good to start by load-protecting those as well, restart Rhino and see if you still can crash Rhino.

If that works, then load plug-ins one by one, each time seeing if you can reproduce the crash. Take note of when the crash starts happening again.

Unrelated: you don’t need the rhinopbrmaterial plug-in anymore, it was more intended for Rhino 6 where there wasn’t a PBR-based material yet. In Rhino 7 there is a native Physically Based Material. Use that instead.

Indeed, consider that cleaned up!

I unloaded all plugins and the crash persists

I have found two crash reports, I’m looking into them now.

Might be a bit closer, updated my Graphics Driver and now I don’t crash but get a server busy message the first time around, and then crash.

The crash dumps show they are related to a YT item I’m currently working on:

RH-64450 rhcommonrdk_c!ContentDatabaseEventInfo_Content – Access Denied (hidden from public).

I have not been able to reproduce this myself yet.

The crashdumps that I already found from you @rheinason have still all the plug-ins loaded. I hope the last one you sent in with all the 3rd party plug-ins disabled helps a bit more in determining what the problem is.

added: @rheinason for the record: for what region/locale do you have your Windows configured? I see you have english as language.

@rheinason the latest crash report you sent in still has all the plug-ins loaded. Please load-protect all plug-ins that do not ship with Rhino and restart Rhino. Also please don’t start Grasshopper before you redo your test.

Yeah windows gets a bit annoying, some parts are in Danish and some in English.

Ok, I have my own region set to Finland, maybe not related to this error.
