I have researched the best SpaceMouse options for the past few days because I want to improve my workflow in Rhino and Grasshopper. I read reviews on TechRadar, 3Dconnexion official website, and CAD user forums, and these two are getting top recommendations:
However, I am having trouble deciding which one would best suit my needs. I mostly use Rhino for modeling, rendering, and Grasshopper parametric workflows. I need smooth navigation, ergonomic comfort, and precise control.
So which one should I buy? Any recommendations or experiences from other Rhino users would be highly appreciated.
Classic mouse:
Logitech G502 (multiple variations, I have the old G502 Proteus Spectrum). It’s important to note that the new models now require the modern “Logitech” software which no longer allow the users set one of the extra buttons as a double-click button. For this reason, I refuse to use the new G502 models that have a slightly better mouse scroll wheel and a reduced mass. If it was not for that function which I need, I would definitely choose the new wireless G502 model due to the better ergonomics of the mouse scroll wheel.
3d mouse:
SpacePilot - a discontinued old model which I use due to the far superior hardware of the navigation “cap”. It features an extremely tiny dead zone, super sensitive sensors, and a noticeably softer spring. I have been using several of the modern models of the brand, and they are clearly worse (unbearable huge dead zone, and stiff spring).
