Hey all,
I´m coming back to Rhino after several years to use it for architectural projects.
This time around, I´d like to use it not only for 3D modelling but also for actual planning work of my projects (not too big in scale but complex due to historic buildings).
So I´ve got a couple questions regarding the somewhat specific workflow of architects. I know, it´s not an architecture specific CAD (like ArchiCAD, Autodesk etc.) but I feel like Rhino can get much closer now than some years ago! Like the new section tool is great for working on floor plans and sections (once you figured out how to set it up)!
Here we go:
DIFFERENT REPRESENTATIONS OF THE SAME PLAN
Can I have adjust the level of detail individually for different views / layout details?
Like a simple representation for early design stages (with only black solid hatches) and increasingly more detailed representations for the later design stages (with particular hatches, different line weights per layer).
DIFFERENT LAYER VISIBILITY PER DETAIL (LAYOUT)
I want to set certain layers on or off individually per detail in my layouts. I can switch layers on and off in the layers panel via the “Detail on” lightbulb. However, layers that are to be shown will also need to have the regular “on” lightbulb switched on. When working in the 3D model with different layer visibilities than in the layout it’s somewhat cumbersome to always have to switch layers back on for the layout…
WALLS
Is there a way to draw walls that can be easily extended, connected to other walls, edited etc.? See attached image: Those walls should connect nicely So it’d be more like an architectural CAD experience, maybe even with door and window tools. A plugin or something? (VisualArc is only Windows and too expensive for my irregular use.
CONNECT OUTLINES OF INDIVIDUAL SOLIDS
Can I have outlines of adjacent solids connect to a single outline without merging the solids via Boolean union? This way, I’d get at least closer to a “wall workflow”. That is, I wouldn’t need to deal with a single solid for all walls of a story (I’m talking building stories) but could have each wall be a separate solid that’s easily edited.
Thanks a lot for any help!
