.ai File Import Failure

In the past week or so (several but not all) .ai and .pdf files have begun importing with some missing geometries. The files contain text outlines and when the imported geometries are made up entirely of straight line segments it tends to fail, like in E L I etc.

So far I’ve tried the following:

  • Import a previously known good file as shown above.
  • Import the files on another workstation in the office successfully.
  • Opened the files in several other local programs successfully.
  • Converted .ai (created in illustrator) using Inkscape to .svg and imported successfully.

In testing on the other workstation I noticed that it was set to update on Service Release (8.14.24345.15001, 2024-12-10) whereas mine was set to Release Candidate (8.15.24352.13001, 2024-12-17). That being said, I had updated today but the problem had occured on my previous version. Unfortunately, I’m not sure which version that actually was. In checking the download cache I have 8.15.24345.18001 and 8.15.24352.13001 folders. I think it was probably working okay on a version or two before either of those, it feels like there have been 2 or 3 updates in fairly quick succession.

While writing this, I continued troubleshooting as I thought of additional possibilities and have managed to correct this issue by rolling back to a previous version. I used the installer from the other workstation (8.14.24345.15001, 2024-12-10) and all is back to normal.

Thanks!

Can I get an example PDF and or AI file to test on this? I was testing against Adobe Illustrator and Rhino 8 and cannot recreate the issue yet.

This is the source file from the above images:
24-184_Reotech_BOOMI_Office_Stairs_MDFGraphicCircles_RouterInfo.ai (1.2 MB)

Thank you for the file, I was able to recreate the problem.

Those are compound path object. The shapes that are not coming thru are pure filled shapes with no visible boundary path. This is something we need to look at closer in that there is a problem. I am doing a bit more digging into it.

But, as a workaround, set the Stroke on all the shapes to 1px Black and then the export will work.
