Add Component (Work Plane) – Instance Appears Horizontal When Created

Hi everyone,

I’m using “Add Component (Work Plane)” to place a fan with X, Y, and Z vectors. However, when the instance is created in Revit, it always appears horizontal (without the Z vector). But if I adjust the work plane (Z parameter of the x-Axis) afterward, the fan rotates and correctly aligns with the Z vector.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

For the fan family, I have set it to “Work Plane-Based” and unchecked “Always Vertical.”

I’m using Rhino.Inside.Revit 1.27.9121.7152 and Revit 2024.

Thank you very much!

Hi Clara,

I’ll try to reproduce this, can you post your family? Thanks.

Hi Japhy,

Thank you for following up on this. I did a few experiments and found that if I pass the planes to the “location” input, the component works well.

I built this set of work planes in Rhino.

If I pass the points as the location input, the generated elements will have the correct position but the wrong orientation— they are usually set to horizontal by default.

However, if I use the plane origin as the location input, the generated elements perfectly follow the plane’s X-axis and are positioned correctly.

I have tested this with different families, and the results are always the same.

A point doesn’t have an orientation, hence the need to use a Plane.
