4 Viewports in 5.0

Comparing V4 and V5 with regards to “graphics card usage” is like comparing apples to oranges. V4 does not really use the graphics card. Yes, V4 uses OpenGL, but nowhere near the level V5 does…and because of that, V5’s internal architecture is vastly different than V4’s.

That doesn’t mean I’m saying it’s not something stupid I’m doing in V5, it just means that saying V4 works is really no different than saying Notepad works…it means nothing to me as far as trying to isolate the problem.

I’m not 100% convinced yet, but close … that this is driver related. But until I can actually reproduce the problem, I won’t be able to make any definitive claims… I also won’t be able to fix it. So I’d like everyone who is experiencing these issues to please report your exact configuration: Laptop/PC, Make and Model, OS (bit version too), and Video Card/Chip.

Thanks,
-Jeff

Hi, Just wondering if there has been any progress made on this front. I also recently bought a Dell Precision M4800 with a Firepro M5100 graphics card. I just installed the latest drivers from AMD and this has not fixed anything. With hardware acceleration on, the viewports are glitchy and flicker. If I turn off hardware acceleration, Rhino used the Intel graphics which work fine, though I didn’t buy a Precision workstation to use intel graphics. Hopefully there will be a fix for this.

Hi,

Someone else in this forum suggested switching of switcheable graphics in the setup (press F2 during boot). It appears to work for me too.
Also maxwell benchmark becomes faster.

Hi All,

I finally heard back from AMD on this… They were able to reproduce the problem and fix it! They say there will be a new release around 4/10. Please keep an eye out for it and let us know if you’re still having issues. I’ve been able to confirm that the drivers do fix the problems here so hopefully this is the last we see of this one.

Thanks for all your feedback and patience on this one.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the update/info, I really appreciate all the effort you guys put into issues like this.

Thanks Jeff. Great news!

Awesome.

Hi Jeff,

I just realized this might only apply to FirePro cards…
Do you know if the drivers for Mobility Radeons are patched as well?

Thanks
-Willem

I wish Dell would get off their butt and release the driver already. Having to wait for the manufacture sucks. Nice part about Nvidia is can download drivers at will. AMD makes you go through the manuf.

Yes, this fix will also make it into the Radeon drivers…but I don’t have a definitive date on when. All I have been told is that there will be a release in April…sorry.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I just wanted to make sure I did not got my hopes up only to find out this did not apply to Radoen drivers.

-Willem

No worries… There was another thread that discussed this same problem, only that thread talked specifically about Radeons… So I had already answered your question there…I should have just made this a more generalized post, and use it in both threads…sorry for the confusion.
