Its been a year since I’m trying to resolve this issue with their support (circa Dec 2024 the email chain starts )
XNURBS support seems to be unable to solve it or make it a priority for their software folk to solve for ?
Goal > looking to see if others have the same issue with the cloud license to increase visibility to the issue for this issue and then gain priority
Does anyone else have the CLOUD license Issue, where the license does not automatically switch when requested, and then have to manually (remember to) deactivate it
When I request the license from Computer A (Home) to my Computer B (Office diff city)
It gives me error Code 5 saying im not connected to the internet and max number of computers
Nore
I only have two computers
previous computers have be erased
My Rhinoceros Cloud license switches seamlessly between these two computers
Its a real disappointment, we are charged more for this automatic cloud license type which doesnt actually work as intended
OR am I missing something up here ?
Ive literally explained the entire thing to the folks on their support email once again
Ive brought both my computers together on the same network and still this license manager doesnt automatically switch
You are not alone I’ve been having this problem since 2023, it usually works, but sometimes won’t and I never know until I get home which is a real drag. I find that I need to make sure ex nerves is quit and then I use exit with rhino eight and 90% of the time that works.
The basics for me is I use cloud licensing set to auto. What works best is I quit xnurbs command make sure it’s not open, then I use the exit on rhino. Then I shut down my work computer, then I go home and open rhino there. You do need to make sure that rhino and xnurbs are not active, and your computer is not sleeping with one of them on.
When it doesn’t work they always say the same thing, I must’ve left the computer sleeping and Xnurbs open or didn’t have a setting correctly, but in reality, I don’t change one thing, it just seems to not behave the same every time. They must not be reading my emails with much attention because they don’t seem to understand what I’m trying to say like they only read the first sentence and it’s always my fault even though I’m positive it’s not.
Funny enough a few days ago I was having the same problem so I decided to check out rhino9 since the new patch tool has some similar features. Then when I quit 9, my laptop was able to run xnurbs almost like rhino9 when closing set the license free. I love xnurbs and can’t live without it for my business, but I can’t wait until rhino nine has a competitive solution. Just yesterday the guy at xnurbs also told me that rhino allows you to have as many copies as you want on different computers and use them at the same time even if you only pay for one so they won’t do that which is absolutely not true. I had asked why can’t the licensing work easy like Rhino.
That is generally correct for most licenses. The limitation is you can only be using the license on one system at a time. If a license has been upgraded then all upgrades are considered to be a single license. If the license is in the cloud zoo then switch between system is very easy - no need to close Rhino on the system you’ve using before starting to use it on another system.
Yes, but you can’t use two copies of rhino at the same time which is what he was saying you could do. My understanding is with only 1 license, you can have only 1 active session.
I have never checked this, but I really don’t think this is true
“For Rhino Cloud Zoo, with just 1 license, you can run Rhino on multiple computer simultaneously. Basically, there is no “limit” how many computers you could run at the same time. In other words, Rhino Cloud Zoo does NOT switch the license and it just provides additional licenses”
You might want to check. Below is a screen shot of a slightly absurd example of seven active Rhino sessions on one system simultaneously: Rhino WIP, (2) Rhino 8, Rhino 7, Rhino 6, Rhino 5 and Rhino 4. All are the same license chain; a Rhino 4 educational license which was upgraded to a commercial Rhino 5 license, then to Rhino 6, to Rhino 7, and to Rhino 8.
What was the source of this? Who/what ever wrote it is ignorant of how Rhino licensing works.
With 1 license you can only use Rhino on 1 system at a time. I opened and used Rhino on my laptop. I left it open. Then I opened Rhino on my desktop and a message appeared:
If I click No the session of Rhino on my desktop will close. If I click Yes I can use Rhino on my desktop but Rhino on my laptop will be locked until I click Yes on a similar message (which would then lock Rhino on my desktop). It is not possible to use Rhino simultaneously on more than 1 system with 1 license. The Cloud Zoo does switch the license between systems. It does not provide additional licenses.
Exactly what I was saying. I asked why they can’t just license the way Rhino does and that’s what he said to me. I love the plug in and it doesn’t seem like Rhino9 is quite there yet with the patch tool. But the licensing sometimes has issues as the OP said when you switch computers with their cloud.
