to have this as a command would make my life sooo much easier since I am often dealing with very complex and nested layer structures, so it is regularly a PITA (excuse my english to find and hide a specific layer. This command would make this one click!
This functionality is already kind of available through the layer toolbox
Hello Wim, no unfortunately that is not it… the situation is like this:
I have a project (I did not do the layer structure myself!) with let’s say 250 layers that are nested into up to 3 levels, so it is super hard to identify and turn off these layers since they are buried somewhere in this super complex structure.
So it would be great if I could just run this command “Hide selected Object’s Layer in Detail” select objects that I do not want to see in this specific detail e.g. a garden furniture object.
Rhino would then identify the layer of this object - or even several objects, for me and turn that layer/layers off instead of me looking up the objects layers, find the layers which are buried at different places inside the layer structure.
This would make the current very painful and repetitive task into a matter of a minute for me…
That still sounds like what HideLayersInDetail does.
Of course, with nested layers, when you turn off a parent layer, the children will also be turned off.

WIM! you are right…!!! How did I miss this one ? I wasn’t aware that this would accept an object selection as an input! Somehow the name “HideLayersInDetail” obviously made me think that you’d have to choose from the usual layer list…
Thanks for insisting
Although, it is easy to hide the layers in a detail view, bringing it back and editing it is a nightmare, there are times where you have up to 10 to 15 layers hidden and you want to turn them on, but you have to go through the layer system, and remember which layer was what, it should be more user friendly.
