Finally
Beautiful work! In my opinion, it would be even better if finished like a Gothic stained glass window
Yes, who doesn’t love stained glass? Now, of course, it is a specialized technique and one must know how to do it (at least by taking a course). But in the field of fine arts, it is sometimes impossible to know all the techniques.
**Do you have or work for that company in the video?
Really interesting. (I have seen something like that in Belgium, great specialists in stained glass).
My work on that portrait of Vincent was just sending an image to Grasshopper, and then sending it to Laser Cutting, in cheap 3mm wood and another of 6mm.
—in that case, I had to control how the image would look with more or less Voronoi cells, which could break the material, if the thickness of the same, was very thin–.
Balancing between image quality and resistance of the material.
Greetings
Claudio (if you work in stained glass, and I can contribute something, contact me)
Thank you!
not sure if he was that holy Vincent Van Gogh also had quite a distinct colour pattern, i am not sure he would have agreed with your suggestion either way here
Hi @claudiofeldman, no, I don’t work in the field of Gothic stained glass or anything similar, but when I attended art school, I made a stained glass piece as a school project, using simpler methods. However, the glass-cutting tool is essential, and in some ways, the approach is similar.
With the help of Grasshopper and laser wood engraving, it’s already a big improvement over traditional methods. And if you don’t limit yourself to thinking about classic Gothic stained glass, you can modernize the technique, perhaps using Van Gogh’s colors on a glass base. It would be an interesting fusion of the old and the new, and surely, just as I’ve thought about it, someone else will come to the same conclusion sooner or later.
There are beautiful examples in Italy of stained glass that go beyond basic colors. Just do a bit of research online, and you’ll see that, with the Grasshopper approach, a lot of interesting work can be done. Surely, when someone does something like this, it will be a classic case of hearing someone say, “Oh, if only I had thought of that!”
*Ah yes, that’s right. Among other things you can do is mosaic art. Gothic stained glass, after all, is nothing more than this technique applied to glass. For mosaics, if you want to make it simpler, you could use spray cans, spray guns, or brushes with acrylic paints. In truth, there are many approaches.
The example of Van Gogh can be seen as just a case study; however, if you manage to make this approach more industrial and avoid limiting yourself to a single subject, but instead address multiple themes, you could carve out a market niche that you might not have thought possible.
