Ver 6 Beta, Set display view to Render cause lack of reponse

Hello,
does anyone else get this. I open ver 6 without selecting anything. Highlight top view, or any other display tab, right click and select rendered. From that point on Rhino becomes unusable, or at least as long as I waited. I get (Not Responding) up top.
Ok, it doesn’t lock up entirely, just about a 3min lag to do anything one rendered is seleected, but I only gave it about 10 or 15 minutes before I closed [x] Rhino.

WIN 7 with NVIDA Quadro 3000M

Forgot to mention VER 5 doesn’t do it on this machine.

Hello - does it make any difference what file is open?

-Pascal

in this condition I started rhino without selecting anything, went right into setting up the tab for rendered. I just tried it opening a file first and I still get a problem, I notice the window goes black.

Hello - can you run the SystemInfo command and paste the results here?

thanks,

-Pascal

Hello - I would start by updating the drivers and then see how things behave and we’ll take it from there. It’s interesting that your initial report from Windows shows an NVidia Quadro and the Rhino report does not show anything from nVidia. If this is a laptop with dual support (high performance/battery saver) then I would see if you can force the high performance mode and see if Rhino can use the Quadro. Also update the drivers for that card.

-Pascal

Ok, plugged in external HDMI monitor and I get the NVIDIA card, ALSO rendered problem went away.

Still an awfully old driver - as Pascal suggested, you would most certainly benefit from an update

-Jakob

update,
my point of view, ( working from a dell precision laptop m6600 ) I went into bios and disabled intel “optimus”, now rendered select seems to work well without me having to plug in an external monitor to prompt NVIDIA to run.
I haven’t been looking for drivers in a while because I hadn’t been having troubles…depending on chipsets and what not I may have what I need but will look around.

Thanks.
