Today I had some time to test the possibilities of the RH8 Linetype system combined with SectionStyles and a Vector Print output. I got quite far and the amount of display options we have at hands with these systems is amazing as far as I’m concerned.
However I made a few observations I’d like to share - maybe it helps getting these tools even better. Maybe @stevebaer, you could be interested?
I made a simple file to demonstrate my finding:
There is an example object in that file with all ObjectProperties including PrintWidth set to “ByLayer”.
On that Layer I set a custom Linetype with a Width of 3.0 mm and a Custom SectionStyle with Linetype set to “ByLayer” again.
Then there is a ClippingPlane that clips the object, visible in a Perspective Layout Detail witch uses a Custom Display Mode, derived from Technical:
When switching into Layout view, the thick Clipping boundary has a few clipping issues with the object, but all in all it looks quite fine, corners are nice and round.
The Edge Lines of the object uses the 1 Px Technical Edge instead of the 3mm Custom Linewith the Object Layer is set to but I think that’s an issue which is already known..
Next I tried to print this Layout in Vector Mode and now interesting things can be observed:
- The clipping Boundary Curve looks at least 5 x as thick as the - now seemingly correctly displayed and printed - 3 mm Edge curves. I tried to find some override that casus this multiplication of the boundary thickness but I coundn’t find one. Is that intended or am I missing something here?
- And then there are these ungly connections on the corners of the Boundary Curve, which are beautifully rounded in Layout View.. It’s a bit exaggerated I must admit - such wide curves shoudn’t be an every day issue. But it came up with this unexpected enlargement of those boundary curves.. Is that something that could be fixed?
- In the printed PDF one of the Edge Lines of the Object is missing. It was still there in the Print Preview. Unexpected behaviour
Here’s the file:

Maybe you can draw some conclusions out of this? Thanks!
