In case of some object in the ClippingDrawing (will use CD) with multiple tangent edges how can I get rid of them? It’s a customer’s CAD from other software and it’s patchy. I would love to have possibility to make tangent/hidden selection per layer. I know it’s complicating, any suggestions of workaround? If I clean all of those curves in the CD block it doesn’t make sense as after update they will get back.
Even though I changed Tangent layer linetype to something different, it’s not affecting CD.
All the curves of this layer are set to be as the source object linetype. But I think they should be set to By layer by default. Same for color and thickness. This will work for my case. But this could be wrong for some cases where user needs the color and thickness of source object. It’s kind of confusing situation. That’s why I proposed this.
Also, I’m looking forward to have separate silhouettes for each objects in CD. Currently the “My part” object has no silhouette. And it would be great to have an option to turn silhouette on/off per layer, similar to what I described above for tangent lines.
The tricky one. As you can see, I need gridlines on my drawing to show the location of my part in customer’s coordinate system. I’m using planes to make those grid lines. But I don’t want my gridlines to sit on top of my part. It’s distracting the readability of the engraving. Also many dimensions and callouts will be here. Any way to put them behind? Moving the grid planes behind is not an option as I’ll loose grid in other sections. Trimming them will bring it back when CD is updated.
As you can see, block elements of sections are too big to put them directly to layout. Currently I see only one way - keep them in 3D and clip them on layout with Detail view windows. Do you know any way to clip block on layout instead?
In case of affected elements of ClippingPlane set “by Layer”, hidden elements are also included in CD as per @rajaa . Could this work then with turned off layers as well? If I already decided to put specific layers in CD, is it a good idea to include both the hidden and turned off objects? If not - I would prefer not include hidden object in current way CD works. If we are including hidden objects from the layer, then include turned off layers inclusion as well. My opinion.
Most of these questions could be solved by direct editing of CD blocks. But this way looses full updatability we are trying to reach.
Any comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I think it is reasonable to expect inclusion layers and objects to be included in the drawing regardless if they are hidden in the model or not. Only the “All” mode should be limited to visible objects. Filed here…
Just to be sure I understand. You want to get rid of some tangents or all of them?
If you want to get rid of all of them, just uncheck the “Tangents” option in the background.
For partial, you’ll need to use a workaround, for example extract the curves of the tangents you’d like to show and include them in the clipping-plane Objects Clipped.
Visible tangents are assigned the source object properties when the ClippingDrawings properties is set “From Input Objects”. If you like to use the output layer properties, you need to set up the ClippingDrawings “Properties” to be “By Output Layers”. In your example, it was set to “From Input Objects”.
Are you suggesting they should be set to be “By Output Layer” in this case?
If so, I am not sure this should be desirable in all cases and I would like to hear what others think.
If you want to control visibility and location of the grid lines, separate from the drawing, then I would use a separate clipping-plane for the grid and align them.
If I understand your request right, you can use the SetDetailBorder command to enclose a smaller area of the drawing in layout. Check this post for details…
Yes, I would like to have different options for different layers to extract/not tangent lines. I know, it’s overcomplicates the dialog of ClippingDrawing creation, but I believe it is worth it.
Agreed. I think it could have both working ways.
Any geometry (grid plane in my case) perpendicular to ClippingPlane still included in silhouette creation. I think it shouldn’t do silhouette for any object, which is represented as single line on the projection.
Yes, I see. Just overlap two details. This could work, but still a workaround.
Yes, I know the Detail possibilities. It was just a thought regarding any way to put block object on layout directly. But no worries. I understand, in my case it would only work with Details.
@wim can you please follow up on this one? I think the Hidden-Line-Drawings engine does not differentiate single lines and that would be a lower level enhancement if it made sense.
