Having an odd issue with lights in V8 vs V7. Easiest to explain with a short video:
-Sky
Yeah, I have seen this one. There are still a good few changes I can regularly make, particularly with the lighting and environment panels, where Rhino 8 simply cannot be bothered to make adjustments. I was thinking of making a macro on a hotkey to switch viewport shading modes to force a refresh.
@sgreenawalt can you share the file with us that show this? If confidential you can share using Rhino - Upload to Support (remember to put link to this topic in the comments).
Started YT issue here: RH-81851 Rendered mode unresponsive to lighting changes.
@sgreenawalt thanks for the upload - added necessary info to the YT issue (private).
What exact version of V8 are you using?
First thing I noticed is that your V8 Rendered mode just looks wrong from the start. What happens if you just start V8 with a new file and go into Rendered mode? Then place a simple object in the scene (i.e. box). Does it work? If so, next try “importing” your file and see what happens…just trying to narrow things down here, these are not solutions.
I would also try restoring your Rendered mode to its defaults. I realize it may look like it’s at its defaults, but clicking the Restore Defaults button ensures that all settings (visible or not) have been reset.
Working with the latest V8 build here, I cannot reproduce what you show in your video, on Windows or Mac versions…so we may need to dig deeper here.
Also, could you please run the SystemInfo command in V8 Rhino and post the results here.
Thanks,
-Jeff
I’ll give all these suggestions a try when I have some time this weekend, many thanks!
Hi @sgreenawalt,
I can see the issue that lighting isn’t affecting the point cloud. However, I am still wondering how you could get the point cloud to look like it does in V7 like in your video. It looks like the lighting is correctly working for you in v7, but I could not reproduce that on several v7 versions that I tried.
