V7 line quality irregularities and no show in end on view

Hi,
Trying V7
I have drawn a line and selected the view port for its end, zoom selected and I can’t see it, yet V5 would show a yellow pixel.
draw a circle at the end and try again, but I get a rough circle in top view and a non perfect line in end view,

rough is the word !

I have often selected ends of lines but V7 doesnt display ends as V5, what is the new method of seeing these ?

I also draw an orange line down the Y axis (default thickness) and with it ‘visible’ see also a black line as per my others, yet unable to select it and delete it. make the layer 0.3 and turn on print preview but its still there.

As I zoom in its still there then it moves from right to left of my line.

I make my line then 0.3 but its still there.

I make it 0.5 (too thick for my likes and needs ) and then the black line is gone.

Repeat this in V5 and no black line at default thickness and 0.3

Whats going on ?

Steve

Hi Steve -

We have that issue on the list as RH-53520 Line not visible head-on
If you select a single curve, the default Rhino settings will turn its points on, and this point will be visible heads-on.

Please provide your SystemInfo data and the settings in Rhino Options -> View -> OpenGL.

Large parts of the display engine get rewritten between versions to be able to add new functionality. This happened between Rhino 5 and Rhino 7, and also between Rhino 7 and Rhino 8. The same settings won’t necessarily give the same visual result and you’ll have to play with curve and edge thicknesses in the display mode to get something that you either like or can live with.

Hi,

Will that be a fix update for V7 ?

As V7 has been around long enough now for basics to have been solved, I had hoped I wouldnt be left wanting on the basics.

Has anyone suggestions on what settings remove that staggered line effect and the poor quality ?
I can’t imagine a prestigious graphics card set up by manufacturer such as Nvidia doing that. Cost me a lot of money, high reviews etc, and I am having to mess with it ?
My gut feeling is display cards are given a lot of attention and settings should give perfect results out of the box for CAD and graphics, meddling with such could spoil results elsewhere, or are we saying its just going to affect Rhino and nothing else ? I dont want to cause imperfections elsewhere. V4 and V5 was perfect for me ‘as is’, I never have had to fiddle in Graphics settings before. I certainly dont want to cause problems in other CAD and progs that use my Graphics card.

Is the Nvidia 3070 needing such to solve V7 ?

What settings have folk out there altered and have you seen such results with a 3070 ?

Is it a bad card for Rhino ? I am gutted if so as I spent a LOT OF MONEY on redoing pc as win10, and time, and now have 5 fractures and life as I knew it is over, through far too much time spent at PC and rebuilding then setting up V7.

Hi Steve -

RH-53520 is on the “Future” list, so not something that is being considered for Rhino 8 at this point in time.

Is there also an 8x in the dropdown? If so, have you tried it?

The settings I referred to are display mode settings in Rhino.

Hi,
as we had ‘end on’ viewing in V5, and its been lost, I would have thought reinstating it would be high on a fix list for V7.

you say not even to be fixed in V8…oh dear.
What is the fix meanwhile ?
I do need to see ends, always have done,

If you select a single curve, the default Rhino settings will turn its points on, and this point will be visible heads-on.

I dont get points to appear when selecting it, I guess I will have to click points on when needing this.

I am not sure that wonky edge view with a non straight line , and its two kick outs, is an antialiasing fix, I will look to see if there is a 8x and try it, as the aliasing in V7 compared to V5 is bad. lines as twisted ribbons, its not ‘pedigree’. ao needs something.

There is 8x so I will try 4x and 8x and establish differences.

Steve

That means that you’ve modified the default settings:
