V-ray Matte Shadow Catcher Issue- help please

I am trying to render tiles on a piece of canvas background and have the shadows appear to affect the background but I am getting this white around the tiles and not just the shadows as intended. Anyone understand what I am missing in my settings? I am using a Dome light and have it set to invisible. But the same issue occurs with CPU or GPU and global illumination.

Thank you

I don’t know what happen here but you could try to save the rendering and place the background in postwork.

So I also posted to the Chaos forums and the tech support wrote and helped me directly after I upload the file to evaluate and they suggested I use the built in V-ray Light Gen found in the V-ray menu. This did work if I used the pre generated lighting but I preferred my own hdri image so not really I total fix. They said I can also try importing the geometry into a file with and already working shadow wrapper and that should work too. They said others are having this issue and they will be looking into it. At least glad I am not crazy always hard when you are following all the steps correctly and it still isn’t working right, especially with V-ray there are some many things you can miss you get convinced it was some small box you forgot to click on. Oh well I hope this helps someone else who is stuck.

you might try lifting you tiles off the backdrop just a bit- Having them coincident may be causing an issue.

Hi all,

Just to clear the mystery a bit, the issue is caused by combination of factors, that include the exposure value and some raytracer details. It is a V-Ray core behavior, it is not specific to V-Ray for Rhino.

The core team was notified, and I hope they can look at it shortly. Meanwhile check whether increasing the exposure value would lead to more satisfying results
