URGENT! Bug! MMB popup menu no longer works!

3 hours ago I enabled the context delayed menus just for a brief period of time to compare it with the same functionality in Rhino 8. Then I turned off the context menu on both versions of Rhino.

Now I figured out that both Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 exhibit the same bug - inability to open the popup menu with the middle mouse button! I loaded the default layout, as well as sevel of my backup toolbar settings. None of them fixes the bug!

I also captured a video to show the issue. Many times during that video I clicked on the middle mouse button, but Rhino refuses to open the assigned popup menu. I also tried that with other default toolbars and none of them works anymore with the MMB. The panning of the viewports works, which means that Rhino registers the middle mouse button of my mouse. It also works flawlessly in other programs, except for opening the popup menu in Rhino.

are you using a custom set up?

the reset command will reset you to factory defaults, and should get this working again.

save any custom bits before you do this,.

Do you mean the “Restore defaults” button? I already did that and unfortunately Rhino still can’t open the MMB popup menu.

no, type reset in the command line, choose “factory reset” from the list.

make sure any custom stuff is backed up as it will as it says return rhino to factory defaults.

I’m using Rhino 7 on Windows 10. When I type “Reset”, the following suggested commands are shown. I can’t see “Factory reset” command.

Edit:

When I try to backup my Rhino options, the program freezes and crashes without a bug report option.

ah…crap, reset is a v8 thing.

toolbarreset is the v7 version.

you may want to do a repair on your rhino install from programs and features

Looks like I will have to do that, unfortunately. But first I will try the “Factory reset” command in Rhino 8 evaluation, which also started to suffer from the same bug after I activated the context menu with the RMB. Could anyone reproduce that bug?

both my rigs here (mac and pc) show the mmb as expected with rmb context menus enabled)

what happened before this started?

I only activated the delayed context menus on both, Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 evaluation when I was commenting on the topic from the link in my original post above. Once I tested that functionality and set 500 mm delay, I turned off that option on both programs. The popup menu worked at that moment. Then I closed both programs and after I opened Rhino 7 about 3 hours later, I figured out that the popup menu will no longer show.

The “Factory reset” command in Rhino 8 helped to fix the bug. I now can open the popup menu on Rhino 8 only, even though it reset every settings I had. I will upload the settings which I was prompted to save for the support:

RhinoSettingsForSupport.zip (2.8 MB)

The “ToolbarReset” command in Rhino 7 does not fix the bug and it still remains. Anyway, I guess that I will have to reset everything in my Rhino 7 to make it work again.

EDIT: The bug is here again! I set the value for “Context menu delay” in milliseconds to 1000 and now the popup menu will no longer show!

When I change the value to a lower value again, the bug remains.

In Rhino 8 I now noticed that the “Context menu delay” under the “Right mouse button” section actually affects the time for showing the popup menu with the middle mouse button. Is not that delay meant to affect only the right mouse button instead? It’s very strange that even when I remove the tick from the tickbox named “Enable click-and-hold context menus”, Rhino will still use the value for the delay in milliseconds for the right mouse button to open the popup menu with the middle mouse button.

In my opinion, the popup menu’s delay must not be affected by the delay set for the context menu on the right mouse button. Both should remain independent from each other. Even better, add a dedicated numeric field for the delay in milliseconds for the popup menu on the middle mouse button.

that was going to be my next question… if you hold the mmb for a while does the pop up eventually come up? If so, we just need to remove the delay from the mmb…

No, it was not working even when I held the middle mouse button for a long period of time.

But I still think that the Rhino users will benefit from a separate option for the delay in milliseconds for the MMB popup menu.
