Last couple versions, when I run the automatic update (as with the new 8.24.25273.15002, 2025-09-30 just now) it re-sets my customized ‘Appearance’ colors settings back to default. Please don’t do that. I have the color settings as I like them, and I do not want them reset every time I update.
Can you please help me reproduce this one? I’m having trouble. Here’s what I tried:
I installed Rhino 8.23.25251.13002, launched it, and started a new modeling window.
In Rhino 8 > Settings > Appearance, Ichanged all the viewport color values to red (I’m red-green colorblind but I do think this is sufficiently weird for even me to notice the change.)
In Rhino 8 > Settings > General > Update Frequency, I set the frequency to Service Release Candidate and checked for updates. I updated to 8.24 and restarted Rhino.
I’m still “seeing red”.
I’ve stopped short of turning on automatic updates (which you did mention). But I’m wondering if there’s some specific colors you change are getting reset, but not others?
When I updated to **Version 8 (8.24.25273.15002, 2025-09-30)** (as well as the update before this one), this reset the color to the default yellow color.
However I just updated to the newest Version 8 (8.24.25280.13002, 2025-10-07), and this time it preserved my custom color.
Sorry, I know thats not much help. Glad it didn’t do it again this time though! maybe it was just a fluke those few times before.
Thanks for the additional info about Selected objects color. I tried again with roughly the same steps listed above, but this time changing Selected objects to red…but again, I could not reproduce the bug.
Glad to hear it didn’t happen again, but I’m still suspicious. I took a look at the code that governs that control and nothing obvious jumps out at me…but subtly bugs are rarely obvious. My guess is we just haven’t figured out the pattern of reproduction yet.
Regardless, thanks for calling them as you see them,
-Dan
PS: I’ll likely never notice this one myself because, as part of what I work on, I’m constantly resetting my settings.
Very weird. I can’t imagine what is causing this. Frustrating. You are in the Service Release Candidate update cycle, correct? (That should not matter, I’m just wondering why we aren’t hearing more reports of this).
There really is no rhyme or reason to this, is there? Not much is changing in Rhino 8’s codebase lately…certainly nothing I can see that explains this.
