Updated to 8.9 and now it crashes 30 sec. after opening

Updated yesterday and now I cant acces my files. Can I downgrade to previos version?

hi @Niels_Kleindienst if it crashes do you get any crash report? If so, pls send these in. Can you run _SystemInfo in Rhino before it crashes?
I’ll send you a link to 8.8, but it would be helpful to track this down ASAP.

Hi Gijs, unfortunatly no. The whole interface is frozen. I cant even run Systeminfo. I have switched to 9 WIP to acces my .8 files. that seems to work fine. Ive also downloaded Vers. 8 another time but it keeps on crashing.

Can you run Rhino 8, and then immediately in TaskManager go to Rhino process right click > Create dump file?

the file will be big, so afterward, zip and send that through upload

Also, can you send the _SystemInfo from Rhino WIP?

Both done

thanks, I’m asking a developer to look into it.

hi @Niels_Kleindienst the dump file is not loading. Does your Rhino actually crash or is it ‘only’ hanging and you make it crash manually?
Do you get a crash report when it crashes eventually? Sending in the crash from your account is the easiest, then the developer can pick it up from there quickly.

Can you take a screen shot from the Reliability monitor details of any recent Rhino occurrences?

Does Rhino 8.9 in safe mode open? SystemInfo from that would be helpful as well.

Thanks

I am having the same issue, safe mode works
i had no problem with version 8.9 on an a windows 11 PC

Hi Gijs, sorry for my late reply. Been on holiday vacation. I´ve uninstalled rhino and installed again. The problem continius. What could be the next steps?

hi @Niels_Kleindienst reinstalling often doesn’t help. Sometimes issues can be resolved by performing a repair instead.

Nope, doesnt do the job. Both 7 and 9WIP are working fine.

@Niels_Kleindienst could you go to reliability monitor

and find the details of the latest crash information:

Hi Niels,

Try this for troubleshooting purposes, create a new shortcut with the /netfx flag for Rhino 8.

@Niels_Kleindienst one more question, are you able to run Rhino in Safe Mode?

Hi Japhy, I seriously dont know what you mean by that. best regards!

The idea is that there may be something (3rd party plugin) loading in the older .netframe version causing the issue.

If you are unable to do the command line switch to troubleshoot you can create the shortcut per the directions…

Caution: only recommended if you have a plug-in that doesn’t run in .NET Core.

  1. Create a new shortcut for Rhino in Windows
  2. Edit the shortcut
  3. Add command line argument /netfx

I had the same problem with update to 8.9. Turned out to be the maxwell render for rhino plugin that was incompatible after the update. It however didn’t give any indication, “Rhino.exe” just crashed.
Maybe some Plug-in problem? typically 30 seconds could indicate its a loading plug-in
