Unable to zoom - no objects are visible — Despite there being objects

Rhino is behaving a bit erratic, as of late. My primary issue is that the ‘Zoom Extents’ command is returning an “unable to zoom - no objects are visible” response, despite there being geometry in the file for it to Zoom to.

I am also noticing my Gumball is randomly setting itself to a random point within my model space that is not the center of the object. I have reset the gumball, to no avail and I have confirmed that my settings are no different than they were before the bizarre Gumball placement.

Hi Shane -

So when you start a new file from a factory-default template and make a box, then run Zoom Extents, you are told there are no objects visible?
-wim

Test what Wim suggested but if you can also upload a sample file here that shows this I can take a look as well. Maybe it’s a block instance or there’s a geometry error and very small surface somewhere.

Good afternoon Wim,

As far as I can tell, this appears to only be occurring on a single file I am working on. The file is about a 2GB in size (that could be an initial red-flag right there). Do you have a preferred email I can send a WeTransfer link to?

Hello - if you can see the scene you expect to see in any viewport, window select the entire scene and then run Invert - does the command line show anything selected? If so Delete or Hide and see if Zoom Extents starts working.

-Pascal

I followed your steps

  • No items were selected via Invert command.
  • Once all geo was deleted, still no Zoom Extents functionality.

After deleting the geo and testing the Zoom Extents command, I noticed that I couldn’t even make a box. The cursor was just the circle with a diagonal line icon and would not let me select a point on the space.

Hi Shane - with nothing selected, what does Properties panel tell you about the camera and target positions? Are the numbers reasonable or massively large or tiny?

-Pascal

@pascal - Attached is a screengrab of the values.

Thanks, that seems perfectly reasonable - I was looking for a corrupted viewport. You have some non-standard plug-ins - I guess it is time to disable these (twinmotion, iris, , close and reopen Rhino and see if that makes a difference.
