Trying to split/trim a surface with grasshopper

Hello ! I am trying to split/trim a polysurface on grasshopper but I don’t know what I should use. I tried to convert it to a brep but it doesn’t work. The idea is to have cubes digged to create a chair inside it

Hello
what you want is not very clear for me as the images in the rhinoceros file are not the same.

I suppose you want something like that
Geometry must be changed in order to make it work

chair.gh (163.0 KB)

I think she want’s the shape of the chair carved out of the plates.

@laurent_delrieu how do I get the kodak picture screen shots?

Yes I quite understand that but it is not clear when I opened the Rhino file.
Also she didn’t give any clue on the way to carve
If plate is red and chair is blue what is the green carved zone ?
Like that

or that ?

Yes, I don’t think she understands that the chair surface has to fully extend through the plates in order to be able to successfully trim them. I am working on a definition that artificially extends the chair surface to the bounding box of the plates. If she wanted something else, she’ll have to come up with more curves.

Yes surely, so it is really more a Rhino work.
I did that (in Grasshopper)

then some closing in Rhino in order to have a closed boolean (Sweep2 mainly)

Then boolean

Yap. Pretty much that except an additional part of the script that creates a stack of plates that center on the chair and ensure they are of a dimension larger in x-y than a circumscribing circle of the chair.

thank you so much ! it is exactly what I was thinking about ! Do you have more details on how you closed the chair please ? So I can do it to the other shape of the chair (it’s in order to have a continuity for the head)

I didn’t do a lot of things, just an offset of lateral curves,

Then Sweep2 in Rhinoceros to close the shape. It is basic Rhinoceros job. Depending on the geometry you want to close, to offset, cut curves, sweep, loft, curve network. There is not one solution for every problem.

than you ! it worked pretty well but how do you make it a closed surface ? It is said to be opened in the properties

If a brep is not closed, use
image
look at edges that appears and try to close there.

In the Grasshopper I send the brep was closed
image

perfect, thank you very much !!
