hello folks , im trying to create something like this , i just want the pattern , i dont realyl care about the overall shape(it cnabe just a sphere) any insight? thanks!
- Unwrap your mesh in Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender
- Paint the diffuse, roughness, and displacement textures in Adobe Substance 3D or Photohop
- Render with displacement, because of the strong three-dimensionality; a normal map won’t suffice
It’s just like unwrapping and texturing a pineapple or similar fruit with a very three-dimensional skin.
hi thanks for the reply , but i would really want to make this on grasshopper!
hmm, using grasshopper you probably wont make everything that is so irregular and uncontrolled , but if u just want some irregular cells, id say you can create the bounding box of the brep surface you are trying to make, then use the volume to generate a 3d voronoi shape and get the intersection between the surface and the 3d voronoi to get each cell, then you can make a mesh with the lines, then each “cell” you can use weaverbird or other mesh editor to create the barnacles like structure
Hi @amir_kharrat
A quick something to get you started (at least one way of doing it) - if you want to get the puffy looking barnacle-like shapes, probably you need to offset the curves normal to the surface/sphere and loft through them (and then onto the point).

thank you so much jakob!
Hello Jakob, I tried making the final result more random, with more polygons in

some areas and fewer in others. However, the result looks very messy like this any ideas?
