Transparent raster fails to be so over Pen view mode

Hi,
Having made my raster image transparent 50% it ceases to show pen mode lines, yet its still faint.

as the coloured lines of the objects are not strong enough in shaded view, pen mode gives me the dark lines I need to position the raster, but the raster obliterates them , transparent setting ceases to have effect.

did you try changing the pixel width of the lines?

Just tried it, no difference, 0.8 print preview on, pen view, and raster as if its 100% opaque, yet shaded view and lines are semi visible through raster.
