Toolbar icon folder?

question:
clearly rhinoceros 6.0 keeps all of their icon bmp’s in a folder somewhere. i need to know where that folder is! why don’t they tell you? why doesnt the icon file button automatically go to that path? i know the tool already exists and already has an icon!!! i dont want to draw a button for a tool that already exists! why do they hide it? why is making a custom toolbar so convoluted in this program? i just want all of the main buttons i ever use to be in one toolbar. i’m sick of switching to the set view tab just to click the same button every time. or to go to the curve tools tab just to click the same spline tool every time. why does rhinoceros make it so difficult to find the icons folder and on top of that so difficult to make a custom toolbar in the first place?

if anyone knows where their icon.bmp’s are please tell me

The icons are stored into the .rui toolbar collection…
But, I don’t understand why you are in trouble…
If you need a toolbar with a copy of all the standard commands you usually run, simply make the new toolbar (I suggest to make a new collection outside standard toolbars) and copy all the commands into it with CTRL + Right Mouse Button
If you need to copy only the icon image you have the “Grab” command (Icon editor, Edit, Grab) that allow you to capture a portion of the screen to use as image (in this case, you can grab the image of the standard icon).
Another way is to edit the standard button, open icon editor and use File → export as Bitmap into a folder that you want and after that you can import into your custom button.
In the past, Rhino V4.0, McNeel did a wiki page where thy explained how to draw icons… I think there was a collection of all the icons… something like a big png image…

Found it

ok please tell me where the “.rui toolbar collection” is??? did you see my screenshot? i’m already making the new toolbar that you just told me to make… thats why it says “custom” I circled it in red. i did not see the grab option before so thank you for telling me that part.
what do you mean by “make a new collection outside the standard toolbars?” i’m already making a custom toolbar, as seen in the screenshots…
i am trying your “ctrl + right mouse button” thing and it lets me “copy link” but when i go to paste it in the new button nothing happens?
i am not going to go into each and every single button and export the bmp when i should be able to click on it from a folder list. if it already exists somewhere why should i individually go make a new bmp when, in most other cad programs, you can just click “custom toolbar” and pick all the buttons you want and all the command text and icons automatically comes in? this program has made the custom toolbar process extremely convoluted.

thank you for the tips!

After that, to copy some buttons to a new toolbar, open the new toolbar and the standard one (so both are visible)
CTRL + RMB on the standard Button and move it to the new toolbar.
A copy of the standard button will appear into the new toolbar (with all working as the standard one).
That’s all.

thats weird, why is it a text file? i’m looking for the bmp’s. for now i can just use the grab tool but i find it very strange that i can’t just tell my custom toolbar to “use the button icon and command from this tool”

like, i even wish i could just grab and drag a tool from a different toolbar and place it in my custom toolbar, and then close all the extra toolbars i dont ever need again.

And that’s what I told you…

OHHHHHH I’M SO DUMB! YOU HOLD RIGHT CLICK AND DRAG! thank you!

No, it’s not convoluted, you are just not understanding how it works. There is absolutely no need to make new buttons if you are just wanting to copy the existing buttons.

Make a new blank toolbar and then with Ctrl+Left mouse button drag an existing button to your new toolbar. That will make a copy of it, command, tooltip, image and all. It’s that simple.

he did not say drag before
i didnt know you had to drag. i just figured that out. thank you for clarifying!

Sorry, I should be more precise… but at the end happy that it worked.
Cheers!
