Text cut in half in Rhino 6

When I create text in Rhino for Windows V6 it is being cut in half and/or arbitrarily masked/hidden per line. I have been trying a number of different approaches to resolve the issue on my own but nothing seems to work. See the image below with (3) separate text object tests. Is anyone else having this problem? Thoughts on how to fix it are appreciated.

Please try SR3; text display changed a lot in this service release and it may have fixed the issue you are seeing.

We just installed sr3 and we still have this problem where I’m at.

Weird; can you go to help and run System Information and paste the result here?

Rhino isn’t finding a GPU on your coworkers machine and is downgrading to a really old version of OpenGL. Does your coworker have Rhino 5 and if so what does the OpenGL options page display on that? @jeff just mentioning you here in case you have any input.

I guess I’d like to know what the specs are on the coworker’s machine period… What is the video card make and model, and what are the drivers being used? …regardless of what Rhino reports/shows.

To me it looks like the text tool is revamped in 6 because there’s weird things happening to both of us when we open a v5 file. I had text that was centered up and down and looked fine on screen, then it would print justified left. I re-typed the text with v6 tools and it worked fine. Looks like it’s just having difficulty translating the v5 data. Not a big deal.
…aside from the fact that he probably needs an updated machine.

The bigger problem that’s happening to me is the rubber band effect when I’m moving items around on screen, and it takes a couple seconds for the item to catch up to the mouse. That’s gonna make my head explode.

It has been, the text tool in V6 is now a “rich text tool” and takes on the characteristics of the active annotation style…

Actually the machine that is cropping the text does it with newly created text as well…I was wrong assuming it was a translation from 5 to 6 issue.

His specs:
Win 7
AMD Athlon 4850
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 2400XT

Coworker was out today so I got on his machine and updated windows (it never had been updated) and after that, for whatever reason, the text is no longer cutoff.

Hello Jeff,

I came across this post as my laptop does the same with dimensions and Text.
I recently downloaded the 3 month’s trial and experience the same problem (text cut in half) . Running Windows 10 on a very old laptop, but not sure if it is to be blamed on the laptop?

Stefan

I wouldn’t blame the laptop, but I might blame the video card/drivers on the laptop. Text in V6 is quite dependent on the video card and its drivers doing what they’re supposed to do…or at least what they say they “can” do.

I’m going to need more than just the OS you’re running… I’d like to know your video card make, model, and driver version…as well as your laptop’s make and model.

The easiest way to get the former is to just screenshot Rhino’s OpenGL settings page and post it here.

Thanks,
-Jeff

Hello Jeff,

Her goes:

Microsoft Corporation
GDI Generic
OpenGL version: 1.1.0
Render version: 0.0
Shading Language: Not supported
Driver Date: NA
Driver Version: NA

Maximum Texture size: 1024 x 1024
Z-Buffer depth: 32bits
Stencil depth: 8bits
Maximum Viewport size: 16384 x 16384
Total Video Memory: 64 MB

Well there’s the answer… There is no driver installed on your system… Or least there is no OpenGL ICD installed on your system.

Microsoft Windows out of the box doesn’t support hardware accelerated OpenGL (which I won’t go into why here). However, I would think that after a few system updates, the proper driver would have been installed. What is your laptop make and model? Do you know what video card/GPU is on the laptop?

Go into the DeviceManager (right-click the Windows logo in the lower left of the task bar and select DeviceManager) … Then look for “Display adapters” … expand that node and either screenshot it or tell me what it says.

I am running SR3 and am up to date on my Windows Updates, but I still have this error. My text looks just like the first post, inconsistantly cut in half. If anyone has other suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

The current SR is 9… can you get that update and see how things look?

Thanks Pascal. I installed that (although it seemed to think it was already up to date), and there is no change when I opened a file just now. See below. Let me know what you think I can do.

Hi Dana,
Please run the “SystemInfo” command in Rhino and post the results here.

Here it is. Thanks for the help.
