SubD friendly

Hi everyone, is it possible to make the trimmed surface below SubD-friendly? I’m asking because converting it to SubD would allow me to make more modifications to the model.

I’d suggest using the QuadRemesh command to get to a SubD like this…

It worked, but there are now too many faces to work with. Is there a way to reduce the face count?

Change the target quad count? It’s there in the screenshot.

Adjust the face count in the QuadRemesh dialog as mentioned, but remember you can always delete edgeloops by sub-object selection > delete too. There’s a balance between detail, form and simplicity that is at the heart of SubD modeling strategies. Something like what I showed will work well…

The Align command > ToFitPlane option is great for flattening selections of faces and the SoftTransform command can be used for editing one sub-object and having the effect falloff over a distance (just remember to turn the command off after by running it again to disable).

I hope that helps.

If you are willing to tweak the SubD to match the surface as closely as possible with a minimal set of faces, see if the attached helps. The higher your tolerance is for deviation from the original surface, the simpler you can make your SubD.
I simply traced your surface with the AppendFace tool and then point edited it.
