Hello everyone, will there be any tools for SubD similar to Blender’s “Grid Fill” in the new version of Rhino 9?
looks nice. to be fair you can do some not that painful in Rhino already.
for closing holes like these you can use SubDSweep2 with those settings followed by join and WeldVertices.
less magic but still. for faster selection double click one edge which will automatically select all edges in one row, you can do that for both rail and sweep shapes, just select SubD Chain in the option.
for simple shapes loft also works, more complex areas like above do not since the edges are too far apart to be joined/welded
Thank you, yes, I am quite familiar with the subD commands in Rhino, and that’s why I was wondering if this is all there is or if improvements similar to those in the video are planned for the next version of Rhino…
i understand and i think you are in luck since SubD in Rhino is relatively fresh and the developers are eager to take on any improvements they seem fit in my experience. but maybe you could extract what exactly you want to improve rather than throwing in some full feature video that you want to have covered when some stuff obviously already works more or less
agreed, this would be a nice feature-

Yes, you’re right, some things work more or less, and that’s exactly where I’d like to focus attention: “more or less” doesn’t seem like an acceptable target to me. I wouldn’t want to be a passenger on a plane that flies “more or less” to its destination.
Even just redistributing the segments while maintaining the curvature would be a fantastic option (you can see it at minute 1:03 of the video). The tool in Rhino that adds loops or rings deforms the existing curvature. In fact, every time I use it, I have to reshape the entire geometry afterward.
me neither, but a tool that needs 4 clicks instead of 2 will not cause too many casualties i guess.
Yes, that’s true, but the things it does today are not just “only” 4 clicks instead of 2; you can’t do this today with Rhino. Besides, I’m not criticizing Rhino; I’ve been a fan since version 1. I just hope that the next Rhino magic tricks will be at this level.
that’s a good trick… @pierrec check that out…
that edge flow redistribution could help with many tools like bridge or anything that requires equal edge counts.
my initial comment was not about preventing improvement, but about pointing out dedicated wishes for the future.
