Sleepy hanging Rhino

When I leave my desk and the computer screen locks, Rhino sometimes hangs when I come back and unlock the screen.

(Turns out there’s a graphics config. error, too. I’ll chase that down.)

That is most likely the issue, please see this thread.

Your laptop is not configured correctly.

check in rhino-
tools>options >advanced

then type opengl in the search bar and look for usehardwaredriver

it should be set to true.

The computer is a Dell Precision 7510 mobile workstation. Both the display options and the Rhino.Options.OpenGL.UseHardwareDriver are set.

(Added) device properties says that the device is working correctly. The operating system is current Windows 10 and the NVidia driver is from April. I’ll try downloading from NVidia; that may help.

NVidia has a new driver, just out a week and a half ago. The release notes say, “This new driver provides improvements over the previous branch in the areas of application performance, API interoperability (e.g., OpenCL/Vulkan), and application power management…”

Application power management. Hmmm.

I’ll try it.

Now what?

download a new graphics card driver for your nvidia and reinstall it using the custom/ clean install option.

something is hosed in your graphics pipeline, either your driver shat it’s pants or your graphics card has died.

check windows>device manager>display adapter>nvidia card>properties

is it disabled by any chance?

And, indeed, downloading a new driver from NVidia seems to have fixed the problems. “SystemInfo” reports that Rhino is using the NVidia GPU, and after a sleep and wake Rhino is working, though I’ll wait a few days and see - power management problems can be tricky.

Hopefully this is resolved.

Thanks!
