for the architects out there, I made this one to combine the Pen silhouettes with textures and fog-like ambient occlusions. It is fast lightweight and helpful to explore materials.

Yes please !
I improved the “Technical Ultra” display mode seen in this post, however, I still keep the old one in case that someone wants to try both of them. The new one performs slightly better on my video card:
I used a screen-shot to capture the red environment map in Plasticity, then I upscaled it in Paint.NET (https://www.getpaint.net/) and enhanced the quality. The resulting environment map is good for product presentation and modeling. I made two display modes that use the environment map: one with hidden surface edges (Car paint 3.ini) and one with visible surface edges (Car paint 4.ini). Other than that, the remaining settings of both display modes are identical.
I also created a grey version with higher brightness and contrast.

Here is a simple Toon display mode with light grey shadows set at 50% strength and solid object colour used to display the objects:
Toon.ini (12.7 KB)
There is also an alternative version with 17% transparency (for some weird reason the shadows disappear if the transparency is greater) and visible hidden lines:
Toon transparent.ini (12.8 KB)
what the difference with the original ?

Hello all. First, thanks very much to all of you who have shared your various custom display modes! A special thanks to Bobi who started this topic and who has so far shared the majority of the custom display modes! There are a lot of awesome ones to choose from and I have installed quite a few so far!
The Shaded Gray Clay display mode that Vince shared in post 72 caught my eye, so I downloaded it and discovered that it was a little too dark for my taste, so I modified it a little and like it a lot now. Thanks, Vince! I also made a version that has the edges and curves turned off. I am sharing those versions here and hope that some of you may find them of use. I lightened the environment map in Photoshop and played with some settings, but honestly don’t remember if I changed anything or not from what Vince had posted regarding the .ini files. Enjoy:

Shaded Gray Clay V2 - No Edges or Curves.ini (15.8 KB)
Very well done. There are some cool display modes that are easy to the eyes.
I also made a slight modification the environment map provided by @vcruzdesigns and created two new Shaded display modes, named Shaded 8 and Shaded 9 respectively. They both use the same environment attached below.
Shaded 8.ini (14.3 KB)
Shaded 9.ini (14.3 KB)

This display mode features subtle shadows, uses a single material for all objects with 80% environment map, and has 1 mm thick surface isocurves and 2 mm thick curves. Object colour is still visible, though it’s combined with the custom material.

WARNING!
There is a bug in Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 that makes it impossible to see blend curves during their creation while using some of the custom display modes, including: Shaded 8, Shaded 9, Shaded Grey clay, Bobi X12, Bobi X13, Bobi X14.
On top of that, some other display modes that use Ambient occlusion (Bobi X9, Shaded 5, etc.) are also affected by this bug partially, making the control polygon for the blend curve invisible during its creation. However, the control polygon becomes temporarily visible while dragging the handles to adjust the blend curve. Once the dragging ends, the control polygon get invisible again.
A detailed explanation of this particular bug could be found in the following topic:

3 of them are real close to sketchup simple display mode
Hope someone will enjoy

This is a slightly modified version of Bobi X14, which is I already posted earlier in this topic. The only difference is that the background now is a gradient with the following colours:
RGB 0, 0, 0
RGB 157, 163, 170

Any chance to share some screenshots, like other people did?
So we can understand if we are interested in something without the need of installing them.
Thanks in advance,
Marco
yes sure
Here they are
(Im not texturing correctly yet…)
Cant upload 22 pictures so PDF …
sorry

Using those displays for architectural purpose, and not yet for rendering.
Textured mode must still be adjusted
Naming too
I should not use “sun”
but “shad” then “ri” “amb” or “scn”
…
best regards
I’m afraid to give the “Sketchup” style too much praise here. I personally really like it. Semi-cartoony but semi-realistic. It makes it really easy to define the shape/layout of things. Definitely going to give these a try. Thanks for sharing them!!
Hi,
I am hoping with Rhino V8 to have a working real world environment in ‘Shaded’ mode, usual grid lines of 10’s a bit darker then 1’s, and realistic shadow such that an ortho view of a hole in a cube shows the hole, as in reality inside would be a bit darker, at the moment in V5 you wouldnt even know there was a hole there.
same goes for undercuts, raised areas, all faces in one direction are same colour, no shadows, how I long for V8 and a better display.
maj line 185 185 185
min line 210 210 210
background 225 225 225
Can anyone do me a shaded mode giving real world shadows ? the rest of the scene just the grid, no graduated backgrounds etc.
Cheers
Steve
Not sure if I properly understand the request here, but have you tried the Bobi X3 and Bobi X4 display modes?
Also, Bobi X13 has ground shadows, but that makes it really heavy for the graphics card at 4K resolution.
Bobi X3.ini (13.8 KB) (visible curves, object shadows only)
Bobi X4.ini (13.8 KB) (hidden curves, object shadows only)
Bobi X13.ini (13.8 KB) (both, object shadows and ground shadows, 2 pixels wide isocurves)
Bobi X13.ini (13.8 KB) (both, object shadows and ground shadows, 1 pixel wide isocurves)
