SetDimensionLayer documentation?

Hi,

The documentation online is not really helpful.

https://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/8/help/en-us/index.htm#commands/setdimensionlayer.htm?Highlight=setdimensionlayer

What exactly does it do?

Once a Dimensionlayer has been set, all newly created dimensions automatically get sent to that layer? This means there can only be one dimensionlayer per file?

Hey Simon -

Yes.

Yes.

How would you rephrase the following so that it would be helpful?

The SetDimensionLayer command decides if dimensions will be created on the current layer or the specified layer.

-wim

Hi Wim,

Something like this?

"If a Dimension Layer is enabled. Àll subsequent dimensions and annotations will automatically sent to that layer. "

As I just did some more testing. It has become more clear. There can only be one active dimensionlayer. But you can switch between multiple layers to be used as dimension layer.

Maybe it could be helpful to have an indication of the active dimensionlayer. Something like this

What would be even more useful is something like this: (And I know I am reaching here…)
An automatic DimensionLayer. Where if you activate the parent layer, the corresponding child layer automatically becomes the DimensionLayer. (“afmetingen” is the dutch word for dimension)
