Thanks for the advice. It is admitedly a minor issue. I have always taken that approach myself. I only came here because on that student computer the problem did not go away, even after repeated clicking. I can’t tell the student to go get a coffee.
I’ve been having the same problem on 6 out of 10 starts for a couple of weeks now. I use Rhino7.
Also getting this issue, tried completely reinstalling a few times.
- I have rhino7 and rhino8 installed and is the same issue on both.
- On first install, there was an error accessing the directory C:\ProgramData\McNeel.
- I deleted the directory and it installed properly. But have uninstalled and re-installed since then.
- Looked in windows event viewer, and there is some information and errors for Mcneel service:
‘stuck in loop’ and ‘unable to download’ or something like that.
Could it be an issue with folder permissions for C:\ProgramData\McNeel, registry settings or services.
Can you advise the permission settings for the:
- C:\ProgramData\McNeel
and
- Does the Mcneel update service require specific access to .net or c++ libraries?
In my case I think my installation broke somewhere.
thanks, Ark.
You may need to repair your C++ and Rhino.
Start with the latest x64 distributable Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn
then go to Add or Remove programs and Modify>Repair your Rhino installation.
