Server Busy loop error

Hello community,

Here I am, with Rhino7 and a rendered/raytraced view of my work… and out of nowhere I keep getting this “Server Busy” - "This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose ‘Switch TO’ to activate the busy program and correct the problem.

My only way out of this was to kill Rhino (and lose part of my work). I tried already stopping the update service (as I have seen in other posts, but with no sucess).

If you could instead of the info you posted reply with the results of the Rhino command _SystemInfo, please? Thanks

Thanks, I updated the post

I see nothing out of the ordinary. Could you maybe share with me a file using https://rhino3d.com/upload?to=nathan@mcneel.com I can test with that causes problems?

Nathan, I’ve seen something very similar (same error.) I have narrowed it down on my computer a bit by experimenting. In my case, if I have the Nvidia Denoiser installed and run Render, click on the denoiser, and click on “Save Post Effects to Document”, then either render more times or set a viewport to rendered, I get that same crash. I can’t get it to crash every render, but I never get the crash if I don’t “Save post effects to document” after clicking on Nvidia Denoiser.

Note that OP doesn’t have denoisers installed.

Also “server busy” isn’t a crash, although counter-productive. A crash would mean Rhino disappears with or without the crash reporting dialog.

I don’t have the file anymore, but I can redo it. I was just exercising to make “water” using a plane and a material with Texture - Bump/Normal and an image of the sea from above. It seems like after disabling this bump/normal option the error did not appear any more and the overall program moved faster. But as Peter said, this pseudo-crash :stuck_out_tongue: is inconsistent…

I just recently did exactly that as an example for another user:

Hi,
I am facing the same “Server Busy” issue with Rhino 7 using python with parallel loops. Hitting the Retry button endless times will continue the process and results in the desired model output.

If I use the same code in Rhino 6 it works just fine.
If I run the code in Rhino 7 without a parallel loop everything works fine as well. Therefore, I conclude that it has something to do with parallel processes.
I am using a parallel module that is provided with Rhino. You can find it here: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\7.0\Plug-ins\IronPython (814d908a-e25c-493d-97e9-ee3861957f49)\settings\lib\ghpythonlib\parallel.py

I have installed Rhino 7 on two different Windows 10 64 bit desktop computers. Both are reproducing the same issue.

That sounds like incorrect parallelization and is separate from the Server Busy problem mentioned here.

I suggest you create a new topic with sample code that works in Rhino 6 for you, but fails in Rhino 7.

Hello, I’ve read this tread as I’m having the same “server busy” popup window.
It is happening pretty frequently with a really not so big file to work with.
Problem occurs while I want to print to image the layout with two detail views in raytraced mode
but also when capturing the views individually to save them as image files.
My principal suspect is Cycles and/or something related with Cycles and Nvidia hardware acceleration but it’s only a guess as the problem generally occurs when multiple “sessions” of cycles are working
the server busy popup blocks any other action with Rhino, then I’m loosing time and the unsaved changes made before the lock down.
If there is any configuration or workaround to avoid this situation, I would really appreciate it.
thanks
Ale

for your info… The problem seem to be solved with last rhino 7.5 update
no “server busy” popups till now

Fresh install on new computer First starting Rhino 7.8… Server busy switch to error. Does nothing no matter what I click.

@Sam_Griffiths does Rhino start in its safe mode?

Hi @nathanletwory
I have the same problem every time I run render. I need to go to task manager and kill Rhino.
My file is really simple (9 cubes, 9 spheres, and 6 lights) as I am just trying to test a material.
Any further ideas?

If this is due to What happens when ViewToFile while on Raytracing - #8 by nsgma then please see my answer there.

Yes. Without the ground and without sun the loop error does not occurr.
