Selecting objects in detail view and hidden view mode

I seldom can. Is this view mode for display only, but not editing?

Hi @djhg ,

In Hidden display mode it is more difficult to select objects because you have to click on the visible lines, however by clicking the lines it shouldn’t be difficult. Being in a detail should be the same as being in a viewport.
If you cannot select objects by clicking their lines please send the file to visualarq@asuni.com.

Kind regards

I’ve sent the project. Thanks.

I still can’t do it. Can’t remember the last time I could. I think it was prior to the OP. Any thoughts? Can anyone else select in hidden view mode?

Hi @djhg,

I found the file you sent some months ago but I don’t have access to it… Anyway, I tried with one of my files and I couldn’t reproduce this error either. Selection doesn’t work when you click in the middle of an object because in Hidden mode you need to click on the lines, that’s all.

Please, could you share a video of your screen reproducing the error? Just to see what we are missing.

Yes I have this issue as well.

I understand that you are trying to limit selection so objects on lower floors are not accidentally selected. However this has the effect of making object selection extremely patchy to the point where working in hidden display mode is sometimes impossible.

This is especially annoying when working in layouts - If I want to make a change by double clicking into model space, I always have to change to another display mode to edit anything. Then I need to switch back to hidden mode again. It becomes very laborious when making a lot of edits in layout space.

Hi @djhg @Ben_B,

Ok, I could reproduce it now. It looks like it happens only with some objects. I will add this issue to our list with your votes.

If’ you’ve been able to determine which objects it happens with, please let me know. It’s a real convenience not to have to go to model space for minor edits.

Hi @djhg,

In the file where I could reproduce it, it was especially painful with walls and doors, but I didn’t get the error with stairs, railings or curtain walls. I still don’t know why this is happening, developers are taking a look to it, so maybe it doesn’t depend on the kind of object… I will keep you updated about this.

I have this issue in both model and layout spaces with all types of objects.

If I drag a selection box over a lot of curves, only around half of them are selected. Dragging a selection window should select everything no matter what. It has led to many errors where I think I’ve selected everything I need, then I move it but half the objects remain where they were.

I hope you guys will be able to fix this!

Hi @Ben_B @djhg , we have just released a new version of VisualARQ (2.12) which fixes this issue.

You can check here the news of the new version: VisualARQ 2 - Version 2.12 released

Enjoy!

Hi Alfonso - just to report that this issue has not been fixed for me. I still cannot select objects on a layout when I go into the detail on hidden viewport display. If I switch to regular shaded mode I can select everything without issues.

It’s workiing here. At least it is in the one detail in one project in which I tested it.

Good to have it back. It’s a very useful functionality.

Hi @Ben_B,

Which VisualARQ and Rhino versions are you using? Please, take into account you will need to click for selection on the edges of the objects. Could you send the file and maybe a video reproducing the issue?

This is hit-and-miss. Forthe same project, in some sessions I can select objects. All too often I can’t.

Hi @djhg,

I will keep an eye on this. For now I couldn’t reproduce it. Which other plug-ins have you installed in Rhino? If you disable them does it make any difference? If you can reproduce it in one specific file, please, send it to us so that we can check it.

Hi @djhg,

I’ve been able to reproduce the selection issue on your file. At least in my computer, when “Print Preview” is on, picking fails inside details with “Hidden” display mode.

We’ll look at this issue.

Regards,

Enric

I can select a some (not all) lines in a detail in Hidden Mode if print display is off, but they don’t highlight. If I switch to wireframe everything works.

Here are the difficulties I continue to encounter delecting in Hidden Mode and the associated challenges:

  1. As stated above, Objects can’t be selected in an active Hidden mode detail view if print display is on.

  2. It seems that if any object, certainly a Va object, is cut via a plan section from the levels panel, a crossing selection will only select it (apparently, based on the absence of highlighting the target object) if the crossing section goes through two edges of the object. I’m not sure lassoing an entire object is reliable either. I haven’t noticed these issues in other view modes. This unexpected behaviour (if intended) and woukd be good know, because otherwise it leads to the perception that the detail is inactive or print display is on or the selection filter is active, and attempting to remedy any if those situations leads to cascading confusion.

  3. It is very difficult to see the yellowed colour of selected elements against Hidden Mode’s white backround colour, which is white for an active detail. Its not clear how to change that display characteristic without changing the printed colour of the background.

  4. In a recent 2 level small house project with no materials and few objects, I experience a several second delay between selecting an object or changing a detail’s activation status and the intended result. This lag - considering the issues above - also leads to cascading confusion as repeated actions muddy the que of lagging commands. This is on a laptop with the fastest cpu currently available at christmas.

Hidden Mode has advantages which would be much more useful without these issues, which significantly hamper productivity. Advice on remediating or working around the issues is welcome. (Their correction would be ideal.)

Hi @djhg,

We are still looking at this issue.

I couldn’t reproduce this issue. Please, could you send us a video where you reproduce it so that I see how you are doing it?

This is a Rhino feature. You can change the selection color from the Rhino Options:

Please, could you send us this file? We will check what is causing this delay.
