I suppose that, as of now, Revit still does not have the functionality to link Drafting Views between documents. The most common solution I have found from public is to copy or create the drawings in live views (e.g., plan, section, etc.) so that the “Drafting” view can be selected from a Linked View.
The issue we face is that we have a file containing a large number of Drafting Views. Manually copying them one by one is not feasible due to time constraints. However, if RIR could select and copy graphic elements to new views, it would definitely save time.
Hi Ctu6, can you put together a small example of what you are trying to do along with the details of your environment (Rhino/Revit versions) and we can take a look. Thanks
I’ve simplified the example file, which includes two drafting views, as shown in the image below. The drafting views primarily contain the following categories of 2D elements: lines, hatches, dimensions, view references, symbols, etc.
As mentioned earlier, we are exploring the possibility of copying all elements from a single drafting view to a newly created plan view. Since the main file contains a large number of drafting views, it would be ideal if this transfer could be automated as a batch process using RIR.
@Japhy This is great! What about the Callout? For example, if a Floor Plan has been created with the same name as the original Drafting View, is it possible to place the Callout in the same location and area, and then select the reference view accordingly?
Unfortunately the Callout is not an eligible element for the Detail Group. The good news the detail group can be duplicated to another project as well.
