Scroll wheel zoom

Hello all,
This might be a very simple problem but it is driving me crazy. For some reason using my middle mouse button scrol wheel to zoom in and out in the viewport is not working. I can’t zoom, nothing happens when I scroll the scrollwheel. The scroll wheel works to scroll through menus, I have tried reinstalling rhino, playing with settings everything and I can’t solve the issue. The problem first came up a couple weeks ago but I would just restart rhino and everything would be fine now it happens constantly any help would be appreciated, zooming manually is driving me crazy.

Hi Justin,

under Rhino Options / View / Zoom / Scale factor there is a value. If this value is set to 1, Scrolling with mouse weel is disabled. Does it work if you set it to eg. 0.9 ?

That fixed it thanks so much that was driving me crazy

And changing it to 1.1 reverses the direction.

I’ve had this issue come up on Windows and Mac Rhino.

Sometimes the zoom scale get’s messed up. If you are close on the object the zooming with the wheel becomes either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. Is there a fix/reset for this? Also effects the rotate sensitivity with the right mouse button.

Select the object you’re trying to get close to and run the command Zs, or View >Zoom > Selected. It should reset the zoom.

Hi Hoodzy-

I use Zoom Target exclusively, myself in preference to Zoom Window in all views. In perspective, this resets the target and allows the scroll wheel Zoom to work more predictably.

May I please introduce a problem which I am having? I am using Rhino 3 and have been for over a decade. I have replaced my computer several times. When I started using Rhino I loaded it on Windows XP, and now I use it with Windows 7. I have a problem which has shown itself off and on each time I load the software on a new computer. The problem is with the dynamic zoom when I roll the scroll wheel on my mouse.
My preference is that when I use the scroll wheel, the zoom will go directly to the spot where my cursor is, but often after reloading the software on a new computer, when I zoom with the wheel it goes to whatever is in the center of the viewport. It is very frustrating and adds time to my projects.
Is there anyone who had experienced this problem and found a remedy?

Hi Doc - the scroll zoom target should be the cursor location… I am not sure what to suggest, but possibly updating mouse drivers will help.

Hey everybody,

I am having the same problem as described earlier with the additional problem that i cannot change the zoom scale factor. It only allows 0 and 1. It doesn’t let me set it to 0.9 but snaps back to 1 when i exit the menu.

Any tipps how to solve this? I reinstalled rhino already.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Emanuel,

Could your problem be related to this:
Apparently in combination with ICloud software decimal input can be a problem:

I still have the issue - I can’t change the Scale Factor to whole numbers, 1 does’nt work, as established above, 2 turns the direction of the zoom to the opposite of what I’m used to. Secondly the zoom jumps in to large steps … I’m working with Rhino 5,0 … Hope someone can help - it is taking me to much time to work like this :frowning:

Hi Lene- in the current service release candidate, please try the testDecimalPoint command (renamed in the latest to the shorter name) You can get the service release candidate automaticallt by setting the ‘Update frequency’ in Options > Updates and Statistics page to ‘Service release candidate’.

I don’t think, the testDecimal Point Command did anything, but setting the service release to “Service Release Candidate” did the trick – thank you SO SO much – now I can set the scale factor to 0.9 and work again, ahhhh J

Maurizio, can you please try the test command TestDecimalPointPrintingAndScanning Like all test commands,it will not autocomplete What result does that give, if any? (I'm not sure it got into the public build yet) @dalelear, I'm not sure if the fix for this got into RC1 of SR10... should it be working better now for Maurizio? thanks, -Pascal

i couldn!t change the scale factor to 0.9 too. changing update and statics menü didn’t work on my rhinoceros.

What is returned on the command line when you run TestDecimalPoint?
Which version of Rhino are you running?

TRying to change the zoom step amount in Rhino 6, but I can’t find the setting.

@djhg, try it from here:

Thanks Clement. I keep forgetting that every flyout category has a top panel.

Hello, I like to create a macro for the scroll zoom. Does somebody knows the command/variable name?
