I was hopeful on the reading the release notes for the latest service release that the annoying “sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t” right click in the layers panel had been fixed.
However, it’s doesn’t appear to be, at least on my install.
HEre’s what I’m seeing:
1 - Behaves normally (i…e right clicking brings up the context menu.
That will be fine for a while after a launch. However at some point (and I’m not sure exactly what causes it) it fails with either:
a - right click edits the layer name (and based on it SHOULD be bringing down the context menu it shouldn’t compete with “editing”. Maybe a double click to edit or just use the menu but the vast majority of the time you AREN’T editing the layer name but moving objects to it or other menu item stuff. That’s been really inconsistent for some time.
b - ignore the right click completely and does nothing.
Whether it’s a or b is pretty random.
Sometimes, if you do other stuff, or lose app focus and come back, it’ll go back to working again, and I (again) have no idea why, but it’s very much still alive and being annoying.
The other one semi-related to this that’s still alive and kicking and endlessl annoying that I reported both in 7 and 8 is the whole business of the name field in properties.
I name my stuff a LOT. Makes it easier to find via searches, makes it clear what’s being selected when multiple objects are on top of each other, makes the work setf documenting for months later when you have to revisit it.
So this gets used a LOT…
And what’s super annoying is usually, I’ll have one or more objects selected, want to put a name on em and go on with what I’m doing, and invariably I go into the name field, type the name, hit return and chronically forgot that often that does NOT return the focus to the command line, so the next thing I type (which is always a command) ends up renaming the selected objects rather then issuing the command.
One of two things happens at that point:
I catch it, and then have to retype whatever I’d named it after doing a select all and delete in the name field, then very consciously click someplace else to take focus out of the name field.
- OR -
I don’t notice it because I’m not looking at it and click on something else thus committing the edit and in the process misnaming the objects.
My files are littered with literally hundreds of objects named “rect”, “wc”, “trim” and myriads of other rhino commands and aliases.
Would sure be nice to actually get a fix on that one.
