I upgraded to Mac OS Sonoma this weekend and Rhino worked for one day normally, but today it just won’t open. I reinstalled Rhino, did some weird commands while restarting to reset some chips, reinstalled the whole Os Sonoma, but it still won’t open. (I’m not sure where the problem lies)
I’m having an 16"MBP with an Intel i9.
When clicking on the application or on a .3dm file nothing pops up except the menu bar of rhino which than is red and freezes.
I have to force quit the app inorder to try another time.
Do you have any kind of solutions should I downgrade to Mac OS Ventura?
I’m finding Rhino work better on Sonoma than Ventura. Suggestions:
- Reboot
- Right click on the Rhino icon and do SHOW ALL WINDOWS
Ok than it shouldn’t be the issue of the Mac OS.
It tried your suggestion, it says no available windows, (but the suggestions below are still there, although I deleted and reinstalled the program several times.)
I was thinking to try a rhino 8 wip version.
Update the rhino 8 beta open perfectly fine. I guess I will be an early adapter for the next few weeks.
Hi Nico -
Which service release of Rhino 7 are you trying to install?
Also, from the Rhino 8 beta, please run SystemInfo
and copy-paste the result here.

For Rhino 7 I downloaded it from the mcneel website (rhino_7.34.23267.11002)

Hey Wim
Thanks for your help, do you think there could be a corrupted file on my computer that just hinders rhino 7 to start?
Hey Nico -
That sounds plausible, yes.
I’d reset the plist and see if that clears things up.
If you have extensive customizations, please make sure to make a backup of that file before resetting it. You can find instructions on how to do this on this wiki page: Rhino for Mac - Preferences [McNeel Wiki]
-wim
Yes I deleted the .plist, all the application support … after reinstalling it than asks for the license than if I want to open the program it instantly freezes (somehow my last opened files appear at the bottom if I go on show all windows via the dock.
hi wim thanks for your help,
I found the issue, it had something to do with a seversychonization on my computer that somehow influenced my finder on Mac. After “killall Finder” the issue was resolved. Just weird that I only experienced the issue with rhino
Hi Nico -
Thanks for letting us know what worked!
-wim
Hi,
I’m experiencing the same problem with Rhino 8. I’m having to forcequit the application. I found the plist files, but I’m not following what needs to be done. Please advise. Thanks!
