Rhino WIP : Spacemouse Jumps

Hello,

I just installed Today’s build and there is a strange behavior with spacemouse, after rotating the view, It reverts to the original location, see below:

Screencap_V8

anyone with Spacemouse can confirm?

Hi @tay.othman
space mouse [enterprise, but that shouldn’t make a difference] is working here as normal after updating to 8.0.22340.12306, [Mac OS11.7.1]

I have a feeling it is a windows only issue, I find it related to this.

Continuing the discussion from Rhino 8 WIP Available Now!:

@BrianJ can you take a look?

Hi @tay.othman,

Cannot reproduce this on Windows 11 Pro 22H2 with Rhino 8.0.22340.12305, 2022-12-06.

These are the settings I’m using:

Regards
Jeremy

Thank you for Reporting, I have 22H2, Yesterday’s WIP, with Identical Settings to yours.

Can you try to Turntable a box for 20 seconds, I get the issue in 12/06 WIP but It works okay on Rhino 7.

Turntable works as expected: I tried different speeds in both directions, in wireframe and shaded modes.

Here’s my systeminfo if you want to dig deeper for differences:

Thank you so much, This confirms that We have identical settings, likely some system variable on my side causing this, I’m going to test it on another machine with fresh installation and will let you know,

I got a newer build, probably that’s why

I’m running the same driver as @tay.othman but do not see the issue on my workstation. I think I’ve seen it on my laptop but I’m not sure.

I tried too. Latest WIP (just installed).
The rotation with 3dmouse have those usual little “hiccups” …

Edit: I see it too.

Here the steps to replicate it on my machine:

  • close WIP with properties panel hidden (or another panel shown, like the layers one)
  • open WIP and try 3d rotate with the 3dmouse, smooth rotation (apart from the small usual “hiccups”)
  • show the properties panel (now the camera location, direction, etc will update all the time during rotation)
  • rotate with 3dmouse have big pauses/freeze every 1 or 2 seconds

I’m having a flashback… I remember Steve Baer did something about this for V7.

I’ll try this later on my other machine. Currently I’m on a very old one:

I think I was able to resolve the issue, The Jumping phenomenon has been eliminated by disabling V-Sync inside Nvidia control panel, not sure how it is applicable but it is working fine for now.

Thank you Guys

@brian I am not able to replicate the issue here with an old Space Navigator puck and the latest v8 WIP. Sounds like at least for @tay.othman the issue was an Nvidia setting.

thank you @tay.othman, I had the exact same issue on my Windows machine… very annoying. Thanks for posting your solution (please mark your answer as a solution, so others with the same issue can find it quickly)

Thanks, Rudi

Thank you for confirming that this issue is not exclusive to my machine, I guess once more people can test V8 we can probably isolate the root cause of the issue.

Sure thing, with these kinds of bugs team work is important
Super hard to find the root cause otherwise…
