I have been exporting models to Sketchup in order to use a particular plugin for sketchup. Once opening the exports in sketchup all of the edges seem to have extra segments? What should be one single edge ends up being made of a dozen lines. Is there something I can do in Rhino to get these to import better? Thanks
Look at these topics…
Thanks, I had read through that thread but I didn’t see anyone mention the issue with edges becoming segmented even though all the points are along one line.
In the Sketchup screenshot the heavy dashes are the end points. So for example what should be a face with 4 edges in sketchup ends up being a face with something like 9 edges. I have tried meshing the surfaces before exporting and still end up with similar results. I thought it might have to do with how the surfaces are modeled in Rhino but can’t seem to find a culprit.
Thanks anyway, I know sketchup is a bit of crapshoot.
I think Sketchup has its place but import export is a pain. Under the hood the units are imperial and this is really a big mess when the files contain blocks. Metric Rhino blocks need to be recreated completely to be usable as Sketchup components. Then there’s also the layer system which is completely different in Sketchup…
Use the option in the export dialog “export planar surfaces as polygons”
if you turn on hidden edges in Sketchup, there are probably a zillion lines going across your planar surfaces.
(I have no idea if this will help… just encountered something similar once when trying to use their web viewer)
Alex, can we get the Rhino model, we will take a look. There are many variables here and it is not clear what can be fixed. But, a detailed look at this may help.
Hi Scott, see attached for the Rhino file. I did delete out everything except for the geometry giving me an issue,
