Rhino keeps crashing

I had this issue two years ago running Rhino 5 and Big Sur: Rhino 7 OSX wont stop Crashing- Big Sur - #19 by Gil

I switched to Rhino 7 and it seemed that the problem was solved. Today I’ve the same issue. It crashes more and more each day. I can’t access the preferences as soon as I click it it crashes.

I reset all preferences, re-installed Rhino 7. Same thing…

I’m running Mac OS Monterey 12.2.1
iMac (Retina 5K, 27 inch, 2019)
Processor 3,6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
80GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Graphics Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB

Please help thank you.

Hi Gil -

Do you know what changed?
Does the Rhino crash reporter pop up, and, if so, do you send in the report?
-wim

Nothing really changed no new software or updates it worked really fine and one day it crashed and had more crash happening since. The typical one is when I want to open the preferences.

The MacOS crash window appears and I sent reports to Apple. It should be a Rhino crash window not Apple?

Is there a way to deep clean Rhino files and re-install all? I tried it but maybe something remains? It seems like Rhino is pilling up informations that brings it to crash. I thought it would be the 3dm files corrupted but if I open the preferences even before to open a file it crashes.

I installed the today’s update. Still crashes when I open the preferences but this time the Rhino crash reporter opened and I sent you the report.

Did the crash report help?

I see in this thread (A lot of crashes with Rhino 7 on Mac) one person having crashing issues and I do also have that window opening saying I do not need to save as often. Could this be a hint to lead to the problem?

anyone reading this…?

I suggest you run the _SystemInfo command and post the results here. Maybe then @wim will be able to help.

Hi Gil -
So, Rhino crashes every time you go to the preferences?
Do you always get the Rhino crash reporter as well, or was that only that one time?

How do you reset the preferences?
-wim

Hi Wim,
That’s correct, Rhino crashes every time I go to the preferences.
I now get each time the crash reporter.
When Rhino is “initializing” it gets stuck for a long while on - Getting license from license manager -

To answer your question - “How do you reset the preferences?” - I can’t access the preferences from Rhino to reset them I followed a step through I read somewhere to delete directly the preferences files inside their folder. Maybe you could you help me erasing everything and re-install all fresh to be sure I deleted the all files?

Thanks,

Could you please send in another one of those crash reports?
I see that the one you sent in on April 14th has a System.IO.FileNotFoundException and I want to make sure that this was not an isolated case.
-wim

I sent one earlier today. Should I paste it here?

Thanks, Gil.
I see that latest one now got through. I’ll have someone take a closer look at that report.

Hi @Gil -
Could you zip the contents of the ~/Library/Application Support/Rhinoceros folder and send that to me at wim@mcneel.com?
-wim

Sure. I sent you the content via WeTransfer

Thanks, Gil.
The developer was able to reproduce the issue and is looking for a way to solve it.

Thanks, Wim!

I’m sure you have lots to do but not being able to reach my Rhino 7 preferences for so long is hard

Hi Gil -
It looks like this one got fixed in the latest release candidate for SR19.
If you change your update preferences, you should be getting a build that no longer crashes.
